depends. if you mess it up somehow by doing it yourself they could get you. if you know what you are doing and put the right stuff in, torque the bolt right...etc. you will be fine.

The stores mentioned could carry AMSOIL if they wanted to abide by AMSOIL's Policies but they don't want to... They have the Wal-Mart Mentality... We have the this is the way we do it if you want it mentality and it is not negotiable...

As far as local..... go to AMSOIL - Synthetic Oil, Motor and Engine Oil, Lubricants, Air Filters, Oil Filters and Greases and do a search for a local dealer... It will not give Retail Accounts...

As far as Warranty... It is against the law for the OEM to void a Warranty due to maintenance practices or products used as long as they meet or exceed OEM Specs. The Specs for tranny fluid on the Manual Honda's is so loose you can run just about anything in them.

Also, Don't let a Dealer BS you... A Dealer DOES NOT have the power to void a Warranty for ANY reason. It must be done by an OEM Rep.

FYI: I just want to inform everyone that the torque for the Fill-hole and Drain plug is 44 Nm (33 lbf-ft) and 39 Nm (29 lbf-ft), respectively.

Also, the oil required is:
1.4L (1.5 US qt) at change
1.7L (1.7 US qt) at overhaul.

The information above is from the official Honda Service Manual.

Sounds like someone had it overfilled to begin with... Which can also harm the tranny.

I have seen posts here and there where people have the car jacked up to the side and fill it until it is coming out... This is definitely the wrong procedure. Car should be level and the proper amount of fluid installed and only the proper amount.

Does the transmission need a drain plug washer? If so is it the same size as the engine drain plug 14mm washer?

If by "need" you are asking if there is a point to the washer? Yes, there is.

If you are asking whether you can just put the old one back on...then yes, you can.

If you are asking whether you should put the old one back on...then no, you should not. You should replace it.

No, it's not the same as the 14mm engine oil drain plug washer.

What difference does it make ? They can't void a warranty for too much maintenance.. Or, a lack thereof for that matter.

^ I would think so too..
I have slight notchyness in 3rd so I bought amsoil mtf which I will use to see if that fixes the issue. I also want to take it into the dealership to see if they can replicate it and fix it but I am sure if they find out I changed the MTF or discover the tranny drain plug has been changed (I can to install a magnetic drain plug) that they will void my warranty.
