DIY: Changing Manual Transmission Fluid

For those of us that don't have the luxury of a lift I used jackstands and a jack to get my trans fluid changed out.

This is the new stuff going in.


This is how I set my car level. As close as you can get without a lift.


This is how I set up my funnel and tubing to the trans fill port.



Done in 15 minutes! Easier than the oil change

I used the same fill bolt torqued to 33 ft lbs. and went with a magnetic drain bolt from Skunk2 torqued to 29 ft lbs.

Noticed an difference right away. Smoother shifting and 3rd gear is not a problem anymore. Now I won't have to worry about this until the next 30K

You want to tighten the fill bolt with a torque wrench to 33 ft lbs. when you are done.

this is by far on of the best preventative maintenance I’ve ever done notchiness and 3rd gear pop pit all gone and i live in the great white north so anyone can benefit from this fluid change

whats the thread pitch on the drain plug for the tranny?

i watched the oil depot change my transmission fluid, and they didnt use a big syringe or anything like that; they used what was essentially a regular pump bottle, like one you would find on a bottle of lotion, with a little tube/hose attached to it, and it worked fine.. whats with these pumps/syringes i see that people say you need to change transmission fluid? looks to me like you could literally use a regular pump bottle thats used with everyday products like soap and lotion, except just attach a tube/hose to it

The thing that worked for me was actually a Coastal Pump "top" that I bought at Autozone- it screws onto standard sized MTF bottles. it fit a bottle of Amsoil Synchromesh exactly, and it worked like a charm. it cost me about 5 dollars after tax, so I think it was a good investment.

Usually it is someone trying to impress people with how much they Don't Know.

AMSOIL MTF is the recommended Gear Oil for the Si... Unless you are putting out more than about 250 Lb Ft of Torque or racing regularly.

In such a case, I would recommend the MTG ...

The only difference, besides additives, is the MTF is about a 70W-80 and the MTG is a 75W-90... They cannot be mixed....

2 qts of MTF ordered from me would be $23.61 Plus Your Local Taxes... that price is only good until April 30th, 3 PM Eastern Time

Situations like this can cause a conflict because people either don't realize, or forget.... This is just to try and give you the facts..

What about the $7.50 in Freight ? and then you have to pay taxes on that higher amount instead of the discounted prices I give.....

If you want me to just give you the product total, it is $14.40... $4.10 less than the amount you gave.

Another thing... THERE IS a time limit on the AMSOIL Prices... There WILL BE a Freight Fuel Surcharge Effective MAY 1st... Hence my time frame..

You Cannot By-Pass a Dealer with AMSOIL.... You may think you are, but you can't... Even our Government and OEM Accounts have to go through a Dealer.. There is No Actual "Direct" Buying.

My Prices are Dealer Cost... You Couldn't buy AMSOIL Cheaper if you were a Dealer or Preferred Customer as you have to pay for those priveleges as well.

I Tick Off a LOT of Dealers by selling at their cost.. AMSOIL gets calls constantly about it..

What did you change it to ? Brand ? Product ?

No fluid will fix it if there is a mechanical problem, but the proper fluid can help keep a mechanical problem from happening.
