Yes... they are NEON ORANGE!

Just to add two cents... it was easier to use a racheting wrech (like a gear wrench) than a socket and rachet on the fill bolt. The bolt is relatively soft and easy to round... the lateral force put on the bolt by the rachet (as opposed to just rotational force) actually caused the socket to move and damage the bolt. I used one of my Gear Wrench 17mms on it and it came off with NO problems.

he corrected himself but didn't correct the original post. what he MEANT was that amsoil is the only thing that fixed the problem and it is the best.

This is exactly how I did it today. From A-Z, it was a snap.

I ran the front wheels on ramps and raised the rear with a floor jack to get the car level while draining and filling. Refilled with Honda MTF. Going to Amsoil next.

I did this yesterday too. But used a pump and did it from the underside.

Also used Amsoil. So far the "notchy-ness" in shifting is far less - will follow up after about a week or so with the new MTF.

ok so after some reading i've decided that amsoil is the best and its what im going to go with. just a couple of questions.

is 5w-30 amsoil tranny fluid the best choise for the base model civic?

and also, i was planning just to shove in the full 2 quarts, and let some leak out while i put the bolt back on. so its not a full 2 quarts. a good idea?

let me know guys, thanks!

no. once you put in about 1.5 or 1.6 quarts, some of it will leak out. there isn't any possible way you could get the whole 2 quarts in unless you were to jack up only one side of your car.

I absolutely do not recommend this. fill the transmission until it is full, but don't overfill it!

and to answer your other question- if your transmission calls for genuine honda MTF and you want to use amsoil instead, use the Amsoil 5W-30 Synthetic Syncromesh MTF.

To date, my shifts are very very much better! Now I feel "notches" only when my timing is off (i.e. when T let the clutch out a tad too early -which in that case you're supposed too :)

I was gonna be using Amsoil, then i realized that The honda Ginuine MTF is rated at about 10W-30, and Amsoil is only 5w-30. I wanted to swtich to a Syn MTF but didn't want to increase wear by using a lighter weight fluid. I was thinking for Redline MT90 or Amsoil SVG-75w-90. Any thoughts anyone?

The difference you are referring to is at 32 degrees... a 75W-90 as you are referrencing is not the required fluid.

The Viscosity of the fluid has nothing to do with wear, it all depends on film strength.

And what are you going to do on those cold Ohio mornings when you can't shift because you have the wrong fluid in the tranny using a 75W-90 ?

AMSOIL MTF IS The proper fluid
