A vise is also a great way to get the blue cap on the ss adapter. Be sure to use lot's of grease.

My only question (sorry if this was posted earlier, but I didn't see anything while reading through): How easy is it to take this adapter off? I'm thinking about getting just the short shifter, but I don't want to void the warranty and would prefer to be able to swap it back to stock if need be for servicing or warranty work (just in case, ya know)

Hi TechJunky,

It is easy to remove the short shifter adapter, it's just a matter of loosening the shifter from the shift assembly and cleaning the jam nut from the dried loctite on it before installing it back on the car.

However, if you plan on removing the shifter adapter a few time, I suggest you buy it with the installed pivot cup because you could potentially damage the stock one by doing so.

Concerning the manufacturer warranty, the shifter adapter does not affect it. Plus, all of our shifters are protected by a lifetime garantee to the original buyer.

Just installed the SS and base bushings. I have the cable bushings too, but decided to wait on those. The install was very easy. The tip about removing the console was worth it. It made the install easier. Thanks for the DIY. The color pics were much better.

Ok I've got a question. I'm seeing that everyone is talking about weighted shifter knobs. What is the actuall benefit to this other than it being heavier and looking better than the stock knob? I'm getting ready to order my short shifter, bushings, and cable bushings, any help would be great as far as tips go to installing these. I konw I konw look at the instructions and posts but if there is anything out there that someone can add for ease that would be great. I'm seeing that removing the center console is the best way to go, am I correct. Thanks for the help.

So is that your round about way of saying nothing, it just looks better with the heavy knob? I don't get it, and I'm not in school anymore, not for going on 14 years. In short that means I'm not trying to study newtons law for a simple answer. I'll just figure it out for myself. But thanks anyway.

A weighted knob will be easier to move through the gears because "an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside source." So the heavier the knob, the more force needed to stop it's motion. Weighted knobs are better.

I posted this in the Mechanical problems section but it might be better off in here. I am trying to uninstall the short shifter because I am bringing my car in to get the 3rd gear looked at and I don't want them to not fix it because of the SS. I can not seem to get the adapter off the stock part. It spins around after I took the bolt off but it wont slide off. I don't want to brake it in doing so. Any incite would be helpful. Thanks!

others have left it on for the 3rd gear fix without problem.

Hmm well i installed mine and its awesome! only problem is that it seems to be hitting part of the shift assembly when going into 2nd 4th or 6th, it isnt enough to keep me from getting in gear but it definitely makes a little clunk going into gear. Im sure i pushed it up as far as it will go

Hello,

To make sure the adapter is correctly pushed down on the stock pivot arm, unscrew the tightening bolt and place a flat head screwdriver between the shift assembly and the adapter. With the shifter engaged in second gear, push on the adapter with the screwdriver to make sure the adapter is as far on the pivot arm as it can be, then tighten the bolt. It shouldn't hit on the shift assembly after that.
