800 Billion dollars, Is the Iraq occupation still a good idea?

The current cost allready spent on Iraq and Afgan is 800,000,000,000.00. Bu$h want another 50Billion for this year.
  • How can we ever recoup that cost?
  • Would that money have been better spent on American soil verse Arab sand?
  • Would you have supported the "war" if you would have know it would have taken soo much money and take soo long and still not have a clear goal or a clear fisnigh point?

I still say we could save money if we let the military finish the job without reporters and politics.Dont worry about though if a demacrat gets in this year the war is over.

800 Billion dollars.

Lets see that could have been spent on

10 Billion for more American doctors
10 Billion for more American nurses
10 Billion for more Law enforcement
10 Billion for more schools
10 Billion for more fire departments

thats only 50 Billion. Still have 750 Billion left

10 Billion for solar panels
10 Billion for windmills
10 Billion for city renewal projects
10 Billion to stop urban sprwal
10 Billion to secure the borders
10 Billion to improve the highways

Well thats only 110 Billion. Still have 640 Billion left.

100 Billion for a massive medical training facilty. Open up a huge school to train medical personal.

10 Billion to fund a branch of the FBI/CIA to track down those asswipe internet email scammers.

Still have 530 Billion to waste.

Purhase and reclaim as much land as possible from Urban sprawl. Then build one center city. Spend 50 billion on 10 cities. Then use the left over 30 Billion to pad my pockets!

Bu$h and Congress both politcal parties must have worked hard to piss away 800 Billion dollars in 5 years

What is the "job"? Because they have a freely elected government

Actually most leading democrats admit we would still be in Iraq for 4-10 more years!

From what I know which is very limited, Bush is getting all of this money with no consequences he will have to face. He will be out of the office by the time we have to pay this back. We should get free gas.

Could that money have been better spent? Hmmmm...let me think: Hell YES!

We had/have no business in Iraq or anywhere else (unless we are directly threatened---a good example would have been WWII)

We could have used that money to: Improve our AWFUL schools, Close off the border (where I believe the next attack will come from), not to mention stop illegal immigration, we could have used that money for health care for the millions of uninsured Americans, build a decent national public transportation system (like Europe has---bye-bye gas!)...I could go on all day...

Bush and anyone else who lied to the American people about Iraq should be put on trial as war criminals!

Ok, off my soapbox, but this issue really burns my ass!

Could not be any more wrong.....Hillary said she could see the majority out by 2013! Were not leaving any time soon and if you think the Dems are anti-war for any reason other than it is unpopular your wrong. They are just as corrupt and dirty as anyone else in the GOP.

Infrastructure could have been greatly improved. With that amount of money we could have done so much real good for Americans- in the current and for decades we could have benifited from proper planning.

We will always have a prescence in Iraq (Airbase). We need a way to step into Irans ass real quick like and the time may be sooner than most think. Besides, Israel is being held at bay by U.S. officials who will eventually have to do something about Iran's nuclear capability because I assure you Israel will take care of business if we don't.

Yes it could have been better well spent..

Bush can only ask for money, the House decides whether or not to give it to him, so how is all this his fault? I ask you for 20 bucks is that bad? Or is it bad that you just give it to me?

Other than that, when Iraq and Afagan is done, it will be a good amount of money invested...

The worst part is... that money is all borrowed. "Someone" will eventually have to pay it back.

No we won't we will just put it on our never ending tab...

I don't understand where we get the money from. We are already billions in debt. I know we can just make money to pay for things but why are we so in debt if we can just create money to pay for it. It doesn't make sense to me.

It is when I have already given you thousands and you keep saying it will only take another 20....I have given you thousands already to build your democracy....I dont want to see my thousands go to waste just because I did not give you another 20...who knows, maybe it will only take a few more 20's.

I dont have the Big TYPE button like you, lol. Not that what I say matters because you are gonna keep blindly defending Bush at all costs.

* I am certainly not implying congress is even doing a half decent job.....ftr*

I don't defend him on the ethanol argument. I defend him because people point the finger at him without thinking about who is really to blame. They can control what he spends it on, and how much money is given.

you do realize we don't have the money we're actually spending on the war... yes?

it's borrowed money on credit. This back in Jan 07.

Quote:
NEW YORK - To pay for World War II, Americans bought savings bonds and put extra notches in their belts. President Harry Truman raised taxes and cut nonmilitary spending to pay for the Korean conflict. During Vietnam, the US raised taxes but still watched deficits soar.

But to pay for the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US has used its credit card, counting on the Chinese and other foreign buyers of its debt to pay the bills.

Now, as President Bush is promising to boost the number of troops in Iraq, there is increased scrutiny over how the US is going to pay for it all.

The US is spending about $10 billion a month on Iraq and Afghanistan. By the end of this year, the total funds appropriated will be nearly $600 billion – approaching the amount spent on the Vietnam or Korean wars, when adjusted for inflation.
We will be paying the money back with interest.... in the trillions. Basically other countries are paying for the war... we are not right now. We're borrowing the money.

Look at the value of the dollar in the world. What's been happening to it? That should tell you the direction of our future.

Oh man, dont start me on the dollar. We are in some deep deep doo doo. China has the largest man Army by far, we owe them an unreal amout of money. Their economy is growing so fast they are busting at the seams....were in trouble. Their real estate is going through the roof.

Hondas are gonna start costing a lot more with the $ right now and Japan/China beginning to break away from their direct $ values.
