But do we really need to respect the opinions of the people who preach hate? The Westboro Baptist Curch tells that 9/11 was god's punishment for allowing homosexuals to exist and hold signs up at funerals that say "GOD HATES FAGS". That may be there belief, and while we do have to accept it, do we have to respect it? Just something for thought.
Westboro Baptist is utterly contrary to Christian belief, and they have an extremely flawed understanding of what sin is.

Humans are made in the image of God. This includes straight, ***, transgender, or whoever. So for them to hate on gays by calling them fags is violating one of the most important commandments in the bible--to love your neighbor.

Back on topic, Taoism isn't so much a religion as a way of life. Tao of Poo is an easy read to get familiar with it. Though I'm skeptical as to how it can transform somebody's life.

I'm not trying to relate them to any other christians, I'm just using them as an example of people whose opinions we SHOULDN'T respect.

And it's the Tao of Pooh (the stuffed bear, not the fecal matter)
It can transform a person's life purely by giving them a new standpoint from which to view things. This can be enough to find happiness in even the most mundane of tasks. Not really a religion, but who needs one of those?

no not really. otherwise whats the point of any definitions. there has to be some definition. from what aki said later on in the post, i saw that we were on relativley the same page on buddhism, logically that means not on the same page on the definition of what is religion.

uhh...

1. what does the big bang theory have to do with religion
2. how does you reading up on the big bang do anything? are you a scientist experienced in the field? dont believe it, thats 100% fine, but having "read up" on it, should have no bearing on how much you believe it if you dont know what its talking about.

Whoa.. I understand both sides of the fence (Type X & honda06si) but there really isn't a need to battle it out in here. To be honest, if you 2 made a seperate thread about this battle I would subscribe and follow just because I'm from a town that watches Jerry Springer.. Not meaning to act like this is a joke or anything, just reading up on the e-drama and seeing what the perspectives are from both angles is a little fascinating to me.

..there was more to this post.. but I'm not a mod so **** it.

Growing up in a family that is full of "Bible Thumpers" (no disrespect meant towards any faithful church going christian), and if I were to mention that I believed in the Big Bang Theory at Thanksgiving dinner one year I would probably get slapped with some yams. Most people believe that you can't believe in the b.b. theory and in the word of Christ at the same time simply because they are contradicting. Christianity states that the world was created from God's will, while the b.b. theory states that the world was created by a chance explosion that.. well, you know the rest of that bad boy. lol.

I went to high school at a Christian private school and the *ahem* "science" books refused to state anything that was really scientific. For example, they honored the table of elements.. but everything else was pretty much like this..
"Why does plutonium exist class?"
"Because it was God's will?"
"correct!"

I seriously used to go to church a while back and I read the Bible in times of distress (which did nothing but make me ask questions that couldn't be answered without bias) and after attending a christian private school I lost all respect for the gathering. I don't have any lost love for the religion itself, just the preachers mainly (and the bible fanbois.. they're just as bad as honda/GM/mitsu fanbois).

Agreed with firmhonda...

Both sides voiced their concerns. However, please do not insult each other just because you don't see eye-to-eye on these types of discussions.

(I'm not referring directly to Type X or honda06si. This is merely a reminder to all).

Feel free to carry on...
