Still very unelectable, but man he really sticks to his guns. How is this "controversial"? I mean that's how Al Qaeda got started. It started as a response to US presence in Saudi Arabia. If we were never in Saudi, there wouldn't have been Al Qaeda.

The "unelectable" has won 19 straw polls. While one or two straw poll wins can be counted as flukes the huge number of wins and the totality of support shows he is electable. Bloomberg polls have the unelectable at 2nd place in three polls.

The electable Romney has the same support today that he had 4 years ago. He isn't able to get more support for a reason. So how is Romney electable when people don't like him.

If the democrats are smart then Obama would finish his term with grace saying I did the best I could. Let Hillary run in 2012. Her numbers are way better than his. Many democrats who don't support Obama will either not show uP on election day or vote Ron Paul.

I wasn't pointing that out as unelectable per say (but it is).

He's unelectable because Paul's notion of "don't spend what you don't have" is anathema not only to politicians but to Americans. Americans want quick solutions to economic issues.

He's also unelectable because Republicans are still heavily Christian-right-based, and Paul can't win the primaries. They want a politician that steers the US govt towards a theocracy, as opposed to having the US govt keep away from religion. Paul isn't a neo-conservative with respect to social issues (even though he is a Christian), and it's why voters steer toward losers like Bachmann, Cain and Perry.

Romney is the most electable, even though he'll do absolutely nothing to solve our economic woes. Compared to Obama, Romney is less terrible, but that's not saying much. And therein lies the rub: in the end, people in the US would prefer staying in this economic mess.

Straw polls don't say much, especially when you see that Ron Paul does terribly in a lot of major polls:
http://www.ronpaul.com/2012-ron-paul/ron-paul-polls/

Even if his approval is going up for Iowa, in general he's not popular at all.

Even if Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination, which he wont, whoever goes up against Obama is going to lose.

It doesn't take much to beat Obama, his popularity is really low. The problem is that the GOP candidates are either terrible or unelectable.

His ratings are low because the only people that rate him are replublicans that have nothing better to do. I dont think the average american sits by the computer waiting to vote online whenever one of the hundreds of different agencies request online poll numbers

Paul has the quickest plan. 1 trillion in cuts within the first year.

Actually Perry and Bachman have been ranking in the bottom for several weeks. Romney, the Mormon, often holds first place in polls. Newt is so far from "christian right" its funny. Cain is the only one able to hold onto the Christian-right and Paul beats him in every straw poll and two recent more valid polls.

The "most electable" has had THE SAME support over the last 4 years. How is he the most electable when after four years he hasnt been able to gain support.

But I agree with you Romney is terrible... I would say he would be more terrible. He passed RomenyCare years before Obamacare.

When all straw polls are added Ron Paul commands a 30 point lead. His lead would be even great if not for the fluke of Bachman just squezzing by Paul in Iowa. Which major straw polls has Paul done terrible in? Becuase he has won 19.

Survey sample size is approximately 2,900, with almost 700 likely Republican caucus-goers. Indiana’s TeleResearch Corp., which has been polling voters for more than 18 years, reports that the margin of error is less than 3%.

Factoring in both Republican caucus-goers and disaffected Democrats and Independents who’ve indicated that they will participate in the Iowa Republican Caucus, Ron Paul leads at 25%, with an approximate 4-point advantage over Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain.

Factoring in only Republicans voters, Ron Paul is in a three-way dead heat for the lead, with Paul and Cain tied and Gingrich trailing by 1 point.

The poll also reveals that more than 25% of all respondents – Democrats, Republicans and Independents – stated that an interventionist foreign policy is the greatest threat to long-term peace and national security.

By electable I mean relative to the other GOP candidates. They'll all lose to Obama at this point.

Well that's my point, in straw polls he does better but RP does really poorly in opinion polls.

Gingrich at top of pack for first time in CNN polling – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

Gingrich (lol) is leading at 25% there with Paul at 4th place with only 9%.

Quinnipiac poll is even worse:
National (US) Poll * November 22, 2011 * Gingrich On Top Of GOP Pack As - Quinnipiac University Hamden, Connecticut

Ron Paul is at 6% beaten by Gingrich (lolwut), Romney, Perry, Cain.

The newt poll is limited to white males over age 50. Nice try but we can read fine print.
