TPMS issues
xtremeness101, can you tell me how long it would take a Tech (that knows what he is doing) to 'initialize' a new sensor on a 2008 Honda Civic EX? Do you know what the dealer charges for this to be done? A wheel / tire shop broke one when installing new wheels and tires, and the new transmitter they re-installed ( it is a Honda Part) needs to be initialized.
If I have 4 new sensors installed back in the factory wheels for winter tires (Blizzak's) I understand, I will have to have them 'initialized' when new. What happens when I change from the summer tires, to the winter tires? Will I have to have them 're-calibreated' every time I swap wheels and tires (from what I have read, in the 2008 Honda Civic System the CPU will only recognize 4 transmitters)? I believe your original statement was true, TPMS is a PITA ! Not to mention what I paid extra (included in cost of vehicle) for this worthless system, what I'll have to pay for transmitters, and to top it off pay to have them initialized, and re-programmed, all by the dealer (no offense to you) because they are the only one with the Honda Civic 'Specific' Tool. I'm still dealing with a Dealer (Lehigh Valley Honda) Service Consultant that insists that my TPMS light "Will NEVER go OFF" because I had 17" Aluminum wheels installed on my 2008 Civic EX that came from factory with 16" wheels! He will NOT even acknowledge that 17" wheels ARE available as an option! He INSISTS that option is NOT for an EX, it is for an Si ONLY !! While I really like the vehicle so far (2000 miles) I am LESS than happy with the service department and the LACK of a Customer Service Tech Line from Honda. Service Consultant INSISTS he has a bulletin from Honda stating that I can NOT put ALUMINUM WHEELS on this car! He even faxed me a copy and NOWHERE in it is there anything about NOT putting aluminum wheels of this car (obviuosly since they were on it from the factory)!! What an idiot, the car came with ALUMINUM WHEELS on it. The ONLY thing in the bulletin that even 'remotely applys' was a statement that, "the wheels must be TPMS compatable". I called the wheel manufacturer and they assured me that the wheels I had installed are TPMS compatable. My only hope is a friend that works for an Acura Dealer, may be able to get access to the tool to 'Initialize' the new transmitter. If that DOES happen I WILL be taking a ride to LVH and showing the "Service Consultant" the results! If NOT, I will be trying to figure out how to get the Damn TPMS light to go OFF !! Which after all of this bullshit, I may be doing anyway IF I have to have the system reset every time I go from my summer wheels & tires to my winter wheels & tires! Thanks in Advance-jp-1 |

08 lx coupe with TPMS
hey guys i tried searching but didnt find what i was looking for. I have an 08 lx coupe with TPMS. My new rims should be in today. 17" Exel Light Is there anything i have to disconnect for the TPMS when i swap the rims? i dont plan on putting the sensors on the new wheels. i dont care for tpms i check my pressure the old fashioned way. I'll deal with the light if it doesnt go off by either pulling a fuse ot taking the bulb for it out of the cluster if possible.
Just let me know if theres anything special i need to disconnect from the factory wheels when i take them off. thanks

Winter/Summer tires
I'm in the same boat with JP. When I bought my car in October, I bought winter rims and tires. The dealership changed them for me and then the TPMS light came on. They explained that they ordered the wrong rims and that I would have to pay more for the TPMS sensors. That would not have been too bad.
My heartburn is that everytime I change my tires, they want me to come back to get the TPMS light reset of which they're going to charge me. When I bought this car, I was under the impression my relationship with the dealer was over. Instead, they insist on some shared custody or bi-yearly visitation with the car, of which I have to fork over some child support money each time. I have chosen to drive with the TPMS light on ALL winter long. Now that I've changed the summer rims back on (yesterday), I hope that light will go off for the summer, or I will not be happy. So if anyone has an alternative solution to fixing this, even if it's "cutting the red wire", please let us know. AKviking |

Run-flat tires required for TPMS?
Couldn't find a thread answering this, so I'm starting a new one.
I've been researching rims and tire upgrades for my '08 Si sedan, and I noticed that Tire Rack mentioned using run-flat tires if you have TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). My car has TPMS, and before I pick a tire, do I need to make sure it's run-flat? It seems to cost more, but if it's required, I'll pay the extra cash for it. Thanks in advance for your answers/advice. |

AKviking, I'm curious to know if your TPMS light goes off on its own. Being you only have the one set of sensors (hopefully) maybe it will.
What a "Rip-Off" this whole TPMS re-set crap is. I got price quotes from local Honda Dealers between $92.00 to $150.00 just to have the sensors re-set ! |

No you do not need run flat tires.
The Tirerack website is simply saying that TPMS is required with runflat tires otherwise you wouldn't know when pressure was lost. |

TPMS Works fine...
Hi People, I've read on here how people have changed they're wheels and had problems with TPMS system detecting the new set of wheels.
Others saying that the system can only detect one set of sensors. I bought my 2008 LX coupe with a set of winter tires on 15" rims. and also got the 16" mags that come originally on the car. Both sets have sensors from Honda. Today, I just change from my winter setup to the summer mags and the TPMS detects the new mags just fine. When I first started the car the TPMS light lit up for a few seconds then went out. I turned the car off and tried again and it was just like starting it up before I had changed the wheels. So I think this is proof that the system will recognize two sets of 4 sensors. Hope this puts some people's minds at ease. I know I was worried about it after reading it. Tom |

What 20strong is describing, I believe, is the following sensor.
pic1 ![]() pic 2 ![]() This one is build by Entire Solutions (joint venture between Michelin Tires and TRW Automotive) and it is replacement for Honda/Acura vehicles. If you compare pic 1 and pic 2 sensors, you will notice the valve is longer for 2nd sensor. However, the valves can be detached and replaced if required. Also, valve can be interchanged from one sensor to the other. Both valve types can be found on the market. The technical term used in the industry for this type of sensor is “adjustable angle sensor” Cheers

No I didn't import it, it's 2008 RR LX coupe bought here in Canada from a Honda dealer, TPMS is new for 2008 here in Canada.

I just posted this cause I had read that some people were worried about buying a second set of wheels (mags) and the TPMS system not working. And with the hope of putting some minds at ease. Tom |
