A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the number of license plates to be issued for and displayed on a motor vehicle.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, is amended by adding Section 502.010 to read as follows:
Sec. 502.010. ISSUANCE AND DISPLAY OF LICENSE PLATE. (a) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, including Section 502.180, the department shall issue only one license plate for attachment at the rear of the vehicle for which the plate is issued.
(b) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, including Section 502.404(a), a person is entitled to operate on a public highway a vehicle that displays only one license plate if the plate is attached at the rear of the vehicle. A person may operate on a public highway a vehicle that displays two license plates if both plates were assigned by the department for the registration period as a set of plates.
(c) In any provision of this code that relates to the issuance or display of "license plates," "plates," or a "set of plates," the term means only one license plate.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act regarding the issuance of license plates by the Texas Department of Transportation applies only to the issuance of license plates by the department for a registration period beginning on or after the effective date of this Act. For a registration period that begins before the effective date of this Act, the department shall issue license plates as required by the law in effect immediately before the effective date of this Act, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.

taken off of txdps website...

"As a general comment, any device that impairs the required effectiveness of headlamps, taillamps, reflectors, etc is prohibited. The lights, both front and rear, are made by the manufacturer to meet this safety standard. An alternate or additional material, particularly something dark, would impair its effectiveness."

oh, and the use of jammers/detectors are illegal as well. not sure on the neon/undercarriage lighting... but if you were thinking about doing that on your civic, then *ahem* - you're on your own.

You would have to check your local laws to find out the specifics on that. It's legal in Tx to only have the rear plate, but it's illegal in most cities in texas because they require a front plate.

Here in Ft. Worth we're required to have the front plate visible from the front of the car, but that doesn't mean that it has to be on the front bumper so I have mine in the windshield. :shrugs:

Thanks guys,

regarding the neon/leds ... if I find someone to do it right for me where you can't see the tube then that's a show mod IMO, and it will not be on all the time

Regarding the neons, I wouldn't do it. Not only because it's generally illegal, but because it also looks ugly 99.999% of the time.

Just my .02

I actually wasn't sure about that law so I asked a police officer that worked at my last job, and she said that it was perfectly legal.

so it's ok to have a jammer, goodbye speeding fines

when they aim the gun at you, you get a warning, slow down, and then turn off the jammer

But they won't do any good since police use Lidar, not Radar.

I believe that the neons are illegal...I knew a guy who had been pulled over for having them on. They are legal however if you are not driving, so if you wanted to park your car and show them off then that should be fine...but why would you that by definition makes you a ricer!!! But really thats up to you if you want neons go ahead its your car

I know neons are ugly 99.99% but there is a 0.01% where i've seen them done nicely, and used for shows only, it didn't look too bad

i'm not planning to put neons on anytime soon, just wanted to know more about them

---

radar detectors are legal i know, but i was asking about the jammer

and regarding the LIDAR, i'll have to read about that
