Help? Speeding ticket in Ft Worth :(

Got one this morning for going 45 in a 30 on a 1 lane back countryside road. It's Randoll Mills where it merges into Eastchase if anyone know where that is. I've gone on this road the same way/speed for the last 5 years without problems, and this morning I got pulled over. A cop going the opposite direction exits the corner in front me, I saw him coming as his head came out of the corner and so I slowed down, but he still managed to somehow clock me at 45. I'm pretty sure he had his radar or laser out the whole time, because 45 was my max speed and I slowed as soon as I saw his car.

Any suggestions on how do I approach this? Should I just go pay the fine and try to get deferred? I had a ticket last year when I first got my Si too but it was in Keller, I took defensive driving for it but it hasn't been a year yet since then.

Any of you guys good with this kind of situation? Help me out!

Pay the fine and do deferred. It seems pretty black and white I wouldn't bother fighting it.

Don't you hate cops? I feel you.. I got one for 73 in a 60 the other day.

Running from the cops might be a little hard in anything short of a Z06 or a motorcycle.

hah, I almost ran today. Knew he was going after me but like I said he was exiting the curve and i was about to enter it. I was out of his vision for at least 15-20s while he turned around, I could of tried to speed up and pull into a nearby neighborhood and disappear into it. He might of kept running straight ahead on that road trying to find me.

I should of tried, instead i slowed down knowing I was screwed just waiting for him to come by and pull me over .

Can lawyers help with any of this stuff? Or is paying the court fee the only way?

Lawyers will cost more than your fines. Plus, you were speeding. Man Up and pay the fine.

The ONE TIME I paid a lkame ass lawyer.... I paid him $45 and then still had to pay for deferred!!! What a rip!

The way I recommend people is this:

1. First ticket... take defensive driving (you do this once a year).
2. Second ticket... do deferred.

The reasoning is simple.l.. if you take probation on ticket #1 and then get another ticket in 90 days.... you are screwed and both go on your record. If you take defensive FIRST and then get another ticket close to it, you can THEN take probation and slow your ass down for the 90-120 days... :)

I have quite a bit of experience in this area... more than most people... and nothing is on my record...

LISTEN TO THIS MAN!!!! He's had more tickets than he is years old im sure...

I got one (83 in a 60) and did defensive driving... however i wish i had done the probation because I only go into that area maybe once every 3 months or so.

lol yeah, my last ticket was about 10 months ago I did the DD. I guess deferred's my only choice now. Was hoping lawyers would be miracle workers but meh, I'm just grasping at straws

If I'm not mistaken, the 90-120 days is only for that specific jurisdiction, am i wrong casey? You should be an expert on this by now... So if you get a ticket somewhere you rarely ever go, do the probation/deferred because it will end up being a lot easier and saving your DD for when you get a local ticket.

DD is cheaper though. My last ticket that I used DD I paid court fees ~$100 and another $25 for the DD class. If you do deferred it's around $180 and in Keller even with deferred u'd have to take defensive driving so I saw no point in doing deferred...

Hopefully FW is easy and doesnt' require me to take DD for deferred

the probation's only for that county, so I've heard. I believe you are correct.

Probation is for the COURT that you go to... go to Tarranty County court... probation is for that county.... go to Arlington court... probation is for Arlington... I have been on probation in two different cities before at the same time (GP and Arlington)... I was advised by a bunch of cops how to handle the system.

And as for more tickets than I am old... that is no longer true... I think my current count is 24-25 tickets with the last one being for 2 mph over in Grand Prairie last spring... the next day, I got nailed by airplane in Oklahoma on a road trip.... but they let me go....

1. Doing probation/defensive may not be cheaper than paying for the ticket, but you will pay in insurance rate hikes for THREE YEARS if it gets to your record.

2. Only buy a radar detector if you are going to buy A GREAT RADAR DETECTOR!!! None of this $30-50 bullshit... either get the Bel RX95, Excort 8500X50 or the Valetine 1... my Escort paid for itself 6 days after I bought it... saved my ass in Irving on Trinity between Roy Orr and Beltline... :)

dude wth? 2mph over? How much did that ticket cost u? I ALWAYS drive 5mph over on all public roads. Rarely do I speed, but this is a backcountry road with very few cars and i'm so used to it now i'm comfortable going way beyond 30mph.

Btw, your radar detector... how effective is it? Have you gotten tickets since u got it? I'm seriously considering getting one now. I've only had 3 tickets in the last 6 years of driving, but 2 of them have been since I got the Si last March. if a radar detector can save me then god.. why not?

btw, does anyone here understand laser/radar technology? I should of asked the cop how he knew how fast I was going, becuz 45 was my max speed, and I slowed down as soon as i saw him exiting the corner yet he still claims I went 45. So he either got me then and there, or he's making up #'s lol

And I just called in, $183 for deferred =[

The ONLY tickets I have gotten SINCE I bought the detector have been by way of LASER.... no detector will svae your ass from laser... they will just let you know when you have been tagged. I would 100% recommend the 8500X50 to ANYBODY.

that road NEVER has cops on it man.....where you closer to precinct line or eastchase?? every now and then they'll hide out on randolmill and john t white, i live right across form randolmill park, so i'm familiar with that area, oh and most cops are so damn stubborn around there that even if you DO fight the ticket you'll still end up paying, take the advice, pay the ticket, and then invest in a radar detector??
