The problem is how sensitive the trannys are to the shift fork being at the EXACT right position to take it out of gear, and into gear... it has nothing to do with the synchros, except their sensitivity to this. |

Do you have a shop, or do you mainly just do private work? I haven't yet come across any mods that I definitely want, and money is an issue at the moment. Also, I've been trying to fix a paint chip and after 2 weeks of working on it I've almost given up and think I need some professional help. Do you do any kind of paint repair or know of a good person to go to for that? edit: I also have the 3rd gear issue but it's not prevalent enough for the dealership to recognize it. I'd be tempted to address the problem separately but I want honda to pay for it because it is their fault for making a faulty transmission.. |

I work with and through several shops, although, mostly independently. Mostly I'm a tuner; and I buy/sell performance, engine, and other K-Series parts (yet I've done many many installs as well). If you look into most tuners, the good ones are independent and work through shops, or own their own dynos. Not to say I'm near the top when it comes to tuners, being an independent. My true roots is my love for K-Series... and when I went from owning a Turbo Eclipse GST to an RSX Type-S, hence the name. I was/am a Computer and Electrical Engineer designing CPUs/chips/boards prior to allowing my hobby get the best of me. It's grown to completely overtake all my other work, and is all I do now.
The installs I've done are hard to get away from, as I seem to have gathered more expience than most, if not all in Austin (outside of the dealership, obviously). As for paint chips... I've owed various new (or fairly new) cars, and I have to say that paint chips is just part of a cars life. You can't really get away from having them. The best thing to do is accept them, try to touch them up as best you can, and either learn how to do it yourself or find a shop that is willing to touch them up from time to time. There are 3 body shops that I frequent, and I use/recommend each for different things depending on what the need is. My Cousin owns a body shop (my uncle runs), but I rarely go there unless I plan to do it myself at his shop, which I have (they're cool with me like that). The other is EXTREMELY good at what I call finishing work, which means the car won't have any actual banging and straightening done to it, rather new parts, perfect installation, and perfect paint put on. These guys are expensive, but I love these guys... when that's what I need (especially if insurance if paying for it). The other is EXTREMELY good at repairing things, custom work, beautiful labor, intensive paint and body work, and all at a great price. The last one is the one I'd recommend for touch up work, if you're going to pay someone to do it. What would I do? I'd go to the acrylic nail polish section at walmart, find the perfect match (or as close as possible), then have my way with touching it up. Get a shop rag, or any, that has no fibers coming off (weave only). Then, touch up the tiny hole (aka chip), wipe the edges to not overlap onto the good paint, let dry, and then repeat, until it's filled. Once filled, wax it. Ta da! It's gone! If you already tried it, and you messed it up, start buffing/waxing. Once you get it so that there is no touch up paint on the good paint, clean it with alcohol, to get the wax off (it won't damage it don't worry), and then do the touch up procedure I mentioned. Works for me... but then again, I recently got my front bumper resprayed, so it's all gone, now. Like new again. As for 3rd gear problems, you can live with it until your blue in the face from being upset with the dealership, or pay someone to actually fix it that knows what their doing. Have it diagnosed, before you pay a cent, though. Same goes for mods, you can worry and stress and get upset that the dealership is going to ring your neck for putting mods on, or you can find someone that's knowledgeable about the benefits/downside of particular mods. |
