There are a few of us "computer nerds" who watch this thread closely.

Aye.

I wouldnt mind if you fixed my Development Domain though. SAN failure this morning for the loss. Just incase any of you ever create an entire domain on an ESX Cluster, make sure you set aside a physical server for DNS. -=] Do you know what its like trying to bring up ESX servers when the DNS server is actually a VM on the esx server?

The missing ram is allocated to your onboard video card. Which you can usually change in your BIOS options.

If it shuts down every 30 minutes well then it depends on how it shuts down. If it just like goes POOF black screen it means your CPU is overheating.

t8konrad, go to nvidia.com or ati, which ever your card is from and get the latest drivers. Like j0ntar said, it could be your cpu, if you're photoshopping, and the cpu overheats, then that could be the reason for your computer's auto-shut down. If you know your way around a computer, I suggest getting some artic silver 5, its around 7 bucks for a lil tube, but it definitely keeps your cpu cool.

Question:

Best Case for a water cooled application?

Must have the PSU at the bottom. and a side window. I've been looking at a coolermaster cosmos 1000, but open to other suggestions.

What programs can be shut off and how do you do that to make the puter run faster. What applications can be shut down? I had read something some time ago and it said a bunch of applications/processes could be deactivated and would make start up faster and computer run quicker.

I have a Gateway Lappy, 1GB Ram, 160GB HD, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-53, Vista(Sucks). Help a brother out!!

I only use my puter for Internet, Word Processing, Photo Storage, ITunes, and thats about it.

Thanks.

um, check this pic out

google some of your processes, like, I think it's called processlibrary.com, if it isn't microsoft, and its not a system process, like if it's running under e&d and not system, then you can hit delete and terminate the process
Like, ipod service, you don't need that running
nor do you need ituneshelper (well not when ur ipod is plugged in)

Can you recommend a product that will allow me to place my notebook on my lap (comfortably), and keep it cool?

anyone know about the virtualization solution offered by citrix? also what kinda servers do you think are safe to virtualize and which should remain physical.

Anything that is not a database can be virtualized. Atleast that is a general rule. I also only use one virtual node in any type of windows cluster, personal prefrence.

Virtualization is best done with Vmware (Vmware server is free) or ESX Server or Windows 2008 Hyper V. I also hear "ok" things about Xen Xen Community

Citrix is more app and desktop based solution.
