You need to find some other means of downloading. If you dont make sure you scan them with an antivirus.

And if all this seems too much, google the K-Lite Codec Pack, the standard version contains everything you need to keep using media player as your default video player (even though it uploads details of what you play in it to M$).\ NcA |

Okay fellas, I have a big one for you.
A virus is on my parents desktop. All the usual methods have returned no results (HijackThis, McAfee, RUBotted, Housecall, etc). One of the major things that I've found is the screensaver that it installs is called Blackster.scr. Along with that virus I've found a VundoGend trojan, but I'm not sure if that's related or not. Symptoms of the Blackster virus:
That's all I can think of at the moment. Do your best 8thcivic, this thing has kicked my ass and I don't know what else to do. ![]() |

Hi and welcom to the ocho. My name is Derek and I will be helping you
Hello, can you post you HJT log please. It would help a lot but start with this (it is lengthy and a back up would not hurt)...
Personally my favorite way to get rid a nagging piece of spyware is to save my music/photo/vids/etc and do a clean install - it usually is way better since you get rid of all the crap you do not use/want/need that is on your compute which results in more space and slightly better performance but here is how to remove the blackster... There are two ways you can do this - with smitfraudfix or you can do it the manual way Click here to download the fix; also I would suggest you just head over here next time you need computer help - esp. if your problem is malware And now this is the manual fix 1st you need to be in safe mode which will keep the blackster program out of your system memory which pretty much stops you from actually deleting in the first place. To enter safe mode just press F8 at the splash screen and select safe mode. 2nd you are going to want to head to your control panel followed by the add/remove programs area and if it is present uninstall the blackster program. 3rd you are going to now need to unregister the blackster .DLL's... msvcr71.dll mfc71.dll mfc71enu.dll shcev9j0e1b1Skin.dll You must us command prompt to do this...type 'cd' in order to change the current directory. To display the contents of the directory, use the 'dir' command. Where you want to remove the DLL file; type 'regsvr32 /u filename.dll' where 'filename' is the name of the file that you'd like to unregister. 4th you need to remove these registry keys...do be careful or you might be doing that clean install anyways HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\shcev9j0e1b1\”DisplayName” = “MProtector” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”LastTime Stamp” = “B8 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Backgrou ndScan” = “1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Registra tionUrl” = “http://www.malwareprotector2008.com/buy/” HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1172441840-534431857-1906119351-500\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICach e\”C:\Program Files\shcev9j0e1b1\shcev9j0e1b1.exe” = “shcev9j0e1b1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Registra tionDiscUrl” = “http://www.malwareprotector2008.com/purchase/” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ADVid” = “” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”” = “C:\Program Files\shcev9j0e1b1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”InstallD ir” = “C:\Program Files\shcev9j0e1b1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”GuiVersi on” = “2.1 .com” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”SoftID” = “MProtector” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ScanDept h” = “2 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”EngineVe rsion” = “2.1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run\”SMshcev9j0e1b1 = “C:\Program Files\shcev9j0e1b1\shcev9j0e1b1.exe” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ScanSyst emOnStartup” = “1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\shcev9j0e1b1\”UninstallString ” = “C:\Program Files\shcev9j0e1b1\uninstall.exe” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Automati callyUpdates” = “1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ScanPrio rity” = “1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”DaysInte rval” = “7 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ProgramV ersion” = “2.1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”domain” = “malwareprotector2008 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Backgrou ndScanTimeout” = “1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”MGuid” = “{0DB56EFC-EE39-447F-94AB-73409F51AC2E}” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Installa tionID” = “{F2D62961-6358-4CCF-B806-7664421D16B2}” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Minimize OnStart” = “0 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”Database Version” = “2.1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ProxyNam e” = “” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\shcev9j0e1b1\”ProxyPor t” = “0 It sounds like you know your way around your registry well enough to delete these but if you don't know how just ask 5th and final thing that you need to do is remove the desktop icon unless you really enjoy the icon there (it might be gone already) Also some of the files may be missing since you have been trying to fix this but malware is really good at fixing itself And finally if you do managed to F something up of course I am not responsible and what not and hey stop by bleepingcomputer if you need help in the |

firmhonda, try this
Re: "Bugs" crawling around on screen/"blackster.scr" - CNET Windows XP Forums I did a google search on blackster.scr and the 1st link i didn't trust, but cnet I will. So I clicked on it and if one of your parents has/had/have downloaded winfix or something like it, then download that superantispyware removal tool. It should take care of it, if not let me know. And cNet is trusted, been using them for years :P

You can always find step by step directions from Symantec and McAfee. Try to update your virus protection and start the pc in safe mode. Run a scan and see if that helps.

Ok...I didn't read through the whole thread so sorry if anyone already asked this.
Anyway....I'm looking to upgrade my memory in my desktop. I currently have 1GB of DDR memory and have 2 more open slots. I'm thinking about getting an extra gig by replacing the two 512k DDR cards with two 1GB cards. Now I saw a bunch of different options when I looked at memory and I'm not sure what i should get. Can I get DDR2 cards and install them or does it have to be DDR? Also...I noticed there are different types of 1GB DDR & DDR2 cards...which type would be the best? My current PC is an HP with the AMD 64 duo processor. Any help is appreciated.

Download SiSoft Sandra Lite from SiSoftware Zone. It'll provide the chipset information and with that, you can figure out if it supports DDR2 and what speeds of DDR2. The "types" you're referring to i'm assuming is stuff like "PC6400", "PC8500", etc. That just denotes the speed the ram is capable of running at (FSB speed).
