#1 tip, if you buy a computer and you know how to do this, format and reinstall windows and all the drivers. Gotta love all that sh*t software the manufacturer throws on there and pretty much kills your new computer.

Nice list, I'll mess around with some when I get home.

Dell has a line called Vostro that doesn't throw all the B.S. on it. I bought one personally and it came very clean.

*cough* *cough*

Google Desktop, Roxio Easy CD/DVD, Dell User Guides, Dell Help & Support Centre to name a few that comes on ALL Vostros.

The guide is actually quite useful however... Worth taking into account for those of you who struggle with keeping Windows clean and minimalist in spite of the programs installed...

EDIT:

None of the software is trialware though and it's easy and not very time consuming to get rid of that.

Had mine for a year and no problems what so ever. If it dies in another year for the price I got my money's worth.

It's kind of funny, while I was having my inspection done earlier I was tweaking the xp that they had on the customer computer. I did everything that I could with it being on a limited account...

Thanks for the link bud, I'm gonna check it out.

Yup. I'm a Mac guy (now) so you know how it is for me...

But yeah did a format and reinstall of Vista on my girl's Dell and it runs faster than when she first got it. If you can keep a PC lean and clean, it can be fairly reliable and snappy...even a Vista machine.
