OK. I got the urge to race a little bit tonight, and tried joining a bunch of races only to be removed by the host nearly every time. I actually finally made it into a single race before being booted. So 10-12 attempts and 1 race... what the hell? what are the unwritten rules about race rooms that I'm clearly not understanding?

I've already learned to watch out for the drift races, because they always get sand in their berginas if you show up with a race car. Here's a hint: if the room owner has "JDMyo" for a gamertag, it's probably a drift race. I think they should add a "drift" race type.

can someone clue me in here?

I did a little searching around and found out that a lot people will boot you if you don't have your mic plugged in... I guess they like to give instructions, "call" their lines and tell you what cars to race, etc. problem is, my headset doesn't always work properly so I don't even bother with it. I don't know, it seems a little control-freakish and micro-managy to me, but I guess thems the rulez. So glad I paid for a whole year of xbox live for this.

I have yet to activate my xbox live just because the only time that I ever played a game on xbox live it was full of elitest a-holes that acted like they were better than everyone in the world just because instead of getting laid they were online 24-7 "making a name for themselves."

I'm sure that with forza I would love it if they just played the freaking game, but I made the mistake of playing lost planet for the first time and they were acting like I was getting in the way of their real life operation to save princess leia in a futuristic snow world full of rocket launchers. :rolleyes:

thanks for the reply... I can't stand elitism either. I'm currently reading this guys rant on "cheaters" using leaderboard cars which don't allow him to win, so in a nutshell, he boots anyone if they pick a better car than his. His argument being, he just wants a competitive race... it's all written with an elitist undertone, thinly veiled by a desire to get to the intrinsic meaning of "what is a cheater?" Then I realized, he's one of the douches that booted me last night... hahaha, wtf? I know I suck, but why not just race (and likely beat) me? I think he knows he's a douche, but just hasn't come to terms of accepting it yet.

I love this game and I want to get better, the only way to do that is to race all kinds of cars and all kinds of opponents often, but actually getting IN to a race is the problem these days. Everyone has a club or crew, and won't let others join. Oh well, I'll continue to try and hopefully learn more of the nuisances of the community and hopefully be allowed to race once in awhile. I think maybe I'll also start creating my own races and see how that goes... hopefully I won't turn into the same kind of tyrant that I'm bitching about.

If I were you I would check out the xbox gamertag list thread that holy EFFING cow has put together over the months. Just look at that and pm some of the people off of that list and see if they want to get a race going, if so ~ create a race and get after it. I'm sure someone here will be willing to race you and, more likely than not, they'll be a bit better at the game so you can get better also.
