Wireless Router Problem

Ok, so I've been running a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 wireless router. It always worked fine, but I just started to notice that the wireless stops working whenever I use my cordless home phone. While the phone is in use, my wireless network wont even show up. Hang up the phone, 10 seconds later, poof, its there and running like normal. All my home phones are 2.4 Ghz. I've had other routers and never had this problem.

Anyone know if there is a setting I can change to stop this. Its really annoying screaming at my girlfriend not to pick up the phone when I'm posting on here.

Any idea's????

Have you tried changing the channel your wifi signal is using? You should have 11 or so channels from which to choose. That's typically the culprit when it comes to cordless phones on that frequency.

Your router and your phone are running on the same frequency... usually 2.4ghz i believe. You will need to get a different phone... one that doesnt run on the same frequency.

edit: i didnt even think of the different channel thing mentioned above. thats a good call.

its currently on Auto channel, This is what is says under there to help solve the problem regarding other wireless devices
Quote:
If other wireless devices, on channels close to that of your AirStation, cause interference,
try using non-overlapping channels. For example, channels 1, 6, and 11 are
non-overlapping channels because they’re far enough apart not to interfere with each other.
To avoid interference, assign wireless channels to your different wireless networks as follows:
11g: channels 1, 6, 11

When Auto Channel is selected, a vacant channel is selected automatically.
"Current Channel" shows the automatically selected channel.

Should I just keep trying different channels and see what works??

WIth Auto channel, its currently on channel 1
