if you listen to mp3s alot then its not a bad deal for music+internet(check your emails and stuff) and lil mini applications that you can install when you play around with it,
i dont listen music much .. dont know why i got it in the first place.. but mines been collecting dust in my drawer.

i just bought mine last week and i love it!!

i bought my girlfriends Nano last year for $250.00, and i bought my 8G for $299.99 and has alot more to offer then hers for only $50 more. I like it b/c of the video and the wi-fi, the only thing i HAAAATE is when i have it in the car my ability to scan from song to song from my steering is GONE. When ever i wanna toggle songs i have to use it from my ipod...so far thats my only complaint

I am looking at devices like the touch as we speak. My hangup with the iPod is having to use iTunes to load music. I think it's ridiculous. I want a device that I can just drag and drop files into. I am looking for something with WiFi (must) and video (plus.) Anybody have any alternative recommendations?

Wow, 300 bills for a 8g ipod? I think an 80g zune is cheaper than that. Granded it dosen't have all that fancy stuff like touch, but holy crap.

I just bought an Archos 605 Wifi. It's a 30GB Portable Media Player that supports almost all mainstream media formats, has built in wifi, touch screen, and the ability to DVR. I read tons of reviews and although the form isn't as sleek as the iTouch, most people gave it the edge. Not to mention 30 GB for $279. Win!

ARCHOS

8g of flash memory.

you can get the 160gig ipod for cheap. I guess it depends if you think a portable hard drive is a good thing to have in your music player or not.

This is true. I looked at the Archos w/ 4GB of flash memory and an SD card slot to avoid an HD, but my applications aren't rigorous enough to need solid state memory. Of course after I drop it once I may be singing a different tune.

not only that but you're using more power to spin the hard drive up, and you've got stupid connectors/cables inside that attach the hard drive. my ipod's hard drive cable has been loose and you have to whack the whole unit on the floor pretty damn hard to get it to reseat (without opening it up and risking other internal damage)

yeah.. solid state FTMFBBQ

i had one, its a great piece of technology but i decided to sell it and just bought an iphone. thing was cool, but without a wifi connection you cant go online, or check your email. the batteries on them dont last as long as a conventional ipod either.

They can be "jailbroken" also using similar tactics as the iphone. This will allow you to put 3rd party applications like games and cool addons. Really cool to have when you need to kill some time, I had one recently but I sold it, waiting for new iphone to come out.
