projector TV

I was wondering what would be a good 1080p projector (like 100" wide screen picture). I am moving into a new house in a few months and want to pimp it out really nice. Its a 3 bedroom townhouse but I only need 1 bedroom to use out of them and want to make 1 into a theater type room. Any recommendations on what to look for when buying a projector and is a screen necessary or can I just project onto the wall since they are all painted white.

I was even thinking of going all out and buying a standalone popcorn machine from costco and putting it in the room also.

If you are doing this on a budget at first then you can project onto the wall, but you should really go for a screen, it makes a big difference.

I'll probably try just projecting on a wall first and see how it looks b4 i decide whether or not to get a screen.

I have a bunch of 0% APR credit cards with some decent limits so i might use that and just pay it off slowly as a work over the summer. I got the idea for the popcorn machine and theater from watching Richard Simmon's Cribs episode.

I already have a 46" samsung DLP (720p only though) but I want something bigger and better. I want my place to be the nicest house in the complex and since I'm buying the house I don't have to worry about what I am going to do with it all a year from now.

well since ur pretty much set on a projector then hit up best buy.
they have the whole home theater section now.
thats where one of my friends went. just make sure to ask questions about longevity
since you'll be spending big bucks on that!

^You are fired and you can leave this thread. Dell... they make a decent computer. That's it.

Projector = Sony VW60
Screen = Stewart Greyhawk or Firehawk depending on your room

Best $6000 you could spend!

Going on a wall is the worst option you could ever do. If that's what you're going to do, please don't get a projector and just get a RPTV. Don't waste your cash. Either do it right or don't do it at all. But other people recommend going on the wall and they don't have a clue. That's why the projector market is junk because no one gives a damn or understands how things work. A 1.8 screen... seriously? Wow.

On economode most projectors bulbs will last 3000-4000hrs. You would have to use it 8hrs a day for 2-3yrs before you'd need to change the bulb. The same technology is used in the LCD/LCOS/DLP rear projection TVs. So it is pretty much the same type of display device in a different configuration. The rear projection sets would need a bulb change after the same amount of time.

A projector just gives you the advantage of being portable and the screen can be as large as you want.

He can stay. Not everyone can afford a mid to top of the line projector. And some choose to use the wall as their screen. They could always paint the wall or make their own screen. They all have to start somewhere.

If you are going to watch it on the wall, make sure you paint it with the special stuff first.

Yes, the special stuff is called Screen Goo. It looks absolutely horrible. It's a waste of money. You'd be better off with a good solid paint color and finishing the wall to get a smooth finish than wasting the money on that crap. Then again, if you're using a data projector, you can't complain about picture quality no matter what you do for a screen.
