need help with broken laptop

I revieved a dell vostro1400 in december with vista on it and everything was working great until about 3 days ago. i went to turn it on in the morning and the dell screen came on for a sec like its supposed to and then it went to a black screen with the microsoft loadbar at the bottom, and would not get past that point. i ran the diagnostics on it and failed one of the tests (error code 2000-0146). does anyone know what i have to do to fix this or am i going to need a new hard drive?

Yep, that's a bad hard drive, Dell's are known for having failing hard drives, I fix Dell laptops daily, and we get machines with failing hard drives that are only a few months old

My friends have been through many bad hard drives on their Dells. They're not even the same brand each time and they still fail. Dell must be getting specially made cheap drives or soemthing because I have never had a hard drive problem on the mand pc's and laptops I've had over the years, and the IBM's and HP's at work don't fail very often either.

Its not really just dells fault.. Computer parts across the board are getting cheaply made.

Its the China syndrome... However parts are considerably less expensive than years past.
