Looking for something that probably doesn't exist, some sort of text phone w/out plan
So I doubt something like this exists, but I'll ask anyways. For odd circumstances, I'm looking for a kind of 'phone' that has a number and can send/receive texts. However, I don't want a plan or anything to even talk on, just a simple thing to text with. Maybe pay by text? Or even just a cheap $10/month plan?

I have a "pager" at work from USA Mobility. It's just a little text thing with a qwerty keyboard on it. You could probrably get a plan for cheap, I'm sure it's way cheaper than a cell phone.
Products I have the P900 but it looks like it's not available anymore, the other one like it is though. |

For that price I'd rather get their $30 300 minute plan and add the $10 unlimited texting to it, at least I'd be able to talk if someone really needed to call. |

$30 would get you unlimited text/data/aim/email/internet
no phone minutes. Find a sidekick on ebay/Craigs list/etc Mine was $50 :)

I sold phones for a bit
easiest way is to go prepaid, .15 ea, or the dollar per day sidekick plan but there are deaf pagers that use sms (text) its just not cost effective to phone companies who give you a number that your not going to use for voice... personally I have $40 base plan (1000 minutes) with tmobile, $20 data - add - on and $15 unlimited texting... if I had a sidekick I would save $15 a month because sidekick is unlimited internet + texting... |

I wouldn't give up. Get a prepaid phone and hold a small minute balance. Where I live the big the prepaid will give you free text and voicemail as long as you have minutes. I think the smallest card they offer is 10 bucks. That way if you have an emergency or something it will still make calls. Not sure how long the minutes are vailid for, but at least a month. The service is Cincinnati Bell Iwireless where i'm at but i'm pretty sure they are piggybacked off of AT&T.

Zipit - Z2 Wireless Messenger - Silver/Charcoal - Z2A
That will be the closest thing that ur are looking for. Just a YEARLY fee and price to purchase it and boom. But gotta be in wifi or wireless area. So not too too bad, just can't use it ANYWHERE like a cell. |

Yeah, but for the price can't beat it, its cheap yearly fee and then one time cost to buy it. So no monthly shit or contracts. Wireless is in most homes and then wifi is in the big areas, depends all on where he is using it. Might be the thing for him, might not. :shrugs:
