Mine works fine. How are you connecting it? Is it on the right output?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma rocks, btw.

component doesnt carry sound..

and describe "doesnt work"
you mean like no sound, or like no surround sound, or poor sound quality.

Is the color of the screen overly blue/green?

Switch the red cables if it is.

Doesn't help to know set-up and I only can really troubleshoot if I'm looking at it.

you have to switch the input on the surround sound to accept whatever the input is on, on the PS3. Mine has Cable box setting, VCR(which is my PS3), CD, DVD, and a few othrs. i have to have the right one selected on the reciever for it to work.

Never knew that about the PS3, I just hooked up HDMI and things were working fine.

Reading > Me. LOL. I said the same thing, at first.

But, also referring to e60's post, I never knew the PS3 was also picky about what output cables your using. For some reason, my older PS2 was always on Component settings, even when using regular Composite RCA cables.

is it working now? What kind of surround setup do you have (if it's not working that is)? You should have a Fiber Optic cable going from the PS3 to the receiver.

The sound is SO much better than those AVI cables. I got my optical cables for like 6$ each from amazon .
