For day to day operations like email, web browsing, chat, work with multimedia collections MAC is a good option.

But you will always be limited.

For example:
You bought a PSP you will need from Microsoft to fully enjoy your playing handheld.
James sends you an Office File via email and when you open it in your Mac Office Tool you notice that the layout doesn't look very good or simply doesn't open ( I have seen this a couple of times ). Or viceversa you made a document exported in Word format send it to your friend and he have issues. Guess what you need Microsoft.

You are in a college class and the professor give everyone a CD with a utility to make the following projects when you view it on your Mac you notice that is a Win only tool. This happens a lot and you know it.
You know the answer to this .

These are some examples of the bad side of having a non fully supported O/S. And I know it really sucks being limited.

well at least some Mac owners can see beyond their own Mac Bias to see that sometimes sleek and fashionable doesnt always win the race.

But ease of use does.

The guy in that article mixed Macs and PCs. You don't do that. There's a reason by most business running Macs use only macs. It's because of the communication issues. Honestly, unless you do a lot of graphic work and photography, I don't see the point. Most imagery companies use Macs so it works well for them. If someone told me they were an engineeer using a Mac, I'd ask why do they do that? Overall, that just looks like a bad decision on that engineer's behalf.

PC sales are higher. Ummm... lets see. If I was on a budget or had a kid, I'd buy them a $600 laptop before they'd get a Mac. Hell, they wouldn't get a Mac. Or I'd just give them one of my old ones and say deal with it.

It's hot, yep. I can't use it on my lap? If it's cold I'm gonna. None the less, it hurts my wrists to put this thing in my lap so I use a lapstand.

MACs> PCs and PCs>Macs. It's all a matter of personal preference. I don't plan on going back to PCs. I'm happy where I'm at. I own 2 right now and I plan on getting a new Pro this fall.

Real hard core computer users use punch cards

but seriously, if you wanted both worlds, you could just dual boot with bootcamp. I do that on my ibook, it doesn't bother me.
edit: macbook i guess, i like ibook name a lot better heh
can't we all just get along?

I had a lot of gamer friends who did that so they could play. Heck, I think Gonzo on here is running windows on his mac so he can game.

I like to mess with pics so I own this little beast. All the s**t this laptop has been through (5 round trip flights from Kuwait to the US, SAND that gets in everything, 3 halfway cross country road trips, mystery liquids, an colony of ants moving into it. No I can't figure it out either, being stepped on, dropped.. i could go on and on) and it hasn't given me any problems. That alone leaves me impressed.

#40 Apple Products Stuff White People Like

Quote:
It is surprising that it took all the way to #40 to call out Apple products. Initially, we were planning for an entire week on Apple products, but that would just be over kill.

Plain and simple, white people don’t just like Apple, they love and need Apple to operate.

On the surface, you would ask yourself, how is that white people love a multi-billion dollar company with manufacturing plants in China, mass production, and that contributes to global pollution through the manufacture of consumer electronic devices?

Simple answer: Apple products tell the world you are creative and unique. They are an exclusive product line only used by every white college student, designer, writer, English teacher, and hipster on the planet.

You see, a long time ago Apple’s were super popular among layout artists and graphic designers. Then Apple released Final Cut Pro and became the standard for film editors. As a result, lots of creative industries used Apple computers instead of PCs. Eventually, people started making the connection, and all of a sudden all white people need to have a Mac.

When you ask white people about Mac’s they will say “oh, it’s so much better than Windows,” “it’s just easier to use,” “they are so cutting edge,” and so forth. What’s amazing is that white people NEED to meet people who use Windows to justify themselves spending an extra $500 for a pretty looking machine.

It is also important that white people are reminded of their creativity, and remember you need a Mac to creatively check email, creatively check websites, and creatively watch DVDs on planes.

White people also need iPods, iPhones, Apple TV, AirPort Express stations, and anything else that Apple will produce. Because you need to express your uniqueness by purchasing everything that a publicly traded company produces.

Apple products also come with stickers. Some people put them on their computer, some people put them on windows, but to take it to the pinnacle of whiteness, you need to put the Apple sticker in the rear window of your Prius, Jetta, BMW, Subaru 4WD Station Wagon or Audi. You then need to drive to a local coffee shop (Starbucks will do in a pinch) and set up your apple for the world to see. Thankfully, the Apple logo on the back will light up! So even in a dark place, people can see how unique and creative you (and the five other people doing the exact same thing) truly are!

Knowledge of Apple products can be useful in a number of social situations. If you see a white person with a Mac, an easy way to approach them is to say “Is that a Powerbook? What OS do you have?” They will happily start talking to you, after the requisite five minutes, you can invite them to an 80s night.

Yea, in the business world, everyone needs to use the same thing for better communication. Whether that be Mac or PC, that will depend entirely on what you plan on doing with it and what kind of software you will need. For home use, you really can't beat a Mac. The OS is easier to use and when it comes to things such as networking and sharing files around the house, OS X is hands down much better. Macs can share with PC's using SAMBA, UNIX using NFS, and Macs using their own protocols. With a PC, all you can connect to are other PC's :P

I use OS X for everything from word processing (iWork '08 is awesome) to audio/video editing... Even as a DVR :) However, when it comes to gaming, I still dual boot Windows XP haha. Apple has never been one to put high end video cars in their computers, but they def get the job done.

Oh and for the comments of not being able to use a laptop in your lap... You should NEVER use a laptop in your lap. It needs to be able to breath and 90% of PC laptops suck are in from the bottom... so you are choking your laptop to death.

I don't think Apple's computers are the be all to end all but they are def a cut above the rest overall. And the ability to boot Windows, OS X, AND *NIX OS's just can't be beat :) Obiously you don't need to run *NIX because OS X pretty much IS Unix.

Hey Dawn! :) Thx, yea I love my new iMac. Gave my old iBook to my sister. Dad bought a Mac Pro, and my Mom has a Mac Mini. I have converted the whole family

btw, OS X is also much better for the visually impaired. My mom is Legally Blind but thanks to some of the stuff built into OS X is able to use her Mac Mini. She's kind of a noob when it comes to computers, but she can get around and check her email and stuff haha Only thing that drives me nuts is when the computer reads everything on the screen to her... omg, it's so annoying lol
