I've only seen this happen on government computers because of security issues. I've never experienced it on either of my Macs. But that's not the point, the point is, since you are all so well versed in PC, whats the problem?

flush dns :)

edit: der sorry

go to command prompt, and type 'ipconfig /flushdns' without the quotes. Maybe a restart for the hell of it, but it should fix her up.

I had her clean out her cookies and temp files. That worked. Always try simple first.

What I hate most about PCs is that manufacturers love to load tons of bloatware on them. Why the hell do I have to spend time uninstalling/deleting all the useless ****?

My next computer will be a Macbook. I'm sick of all the problems I've had with my HP and I love the simplicity and sleek looks of the MB. Dual booting XP for the occasions I may need it; such as when I get the itch to game (yeah, I'm aware of the integrated graphics; my current laptop used to be able to handle gaming and it has integrated graphics, but now it's too sluggish to do anything that graphic intensive).

PS: For those of you wondering, here's a list of some of the problems I've had with my HP Pavilion zv5240us:
-"I" key randomly pops off no matter how many times I pop it back in
-Exterior mute button broke
-Hinge broke, no longer able to stay open unless somewhere between 80-90 degrees open
-Connection between screen and mobo broke twice. Thank god for the extended warranty
-Not necessarily a problem with my HP, but Windows crashed three times on me; all three times, I was unable to get past the welcome screen, and I was also unable to repair or recover Windows

I had enough problems with my HP Pavillion dv2000 that I scrapped it after 5 months for a black macbook.

I maintain about 200 PCs at my work, and I use a mac at home. I'll never use a PC unless I have to now.

I know exactly what you mean, I had a HP Paillion DV9000( i think that's the model number) and the hinge broke apart and was never able to close, the frame around the screen began to peel apart. The whole casing was just plain old cheap. I sold it on ebay for like $200 and switched to my Macbook. Couldn't be happier.

5 months? Damn, I've had mine for three years. I'm just about ready to chuck it out the window (and I live in a fourth floor apartment).

The only thing I'm waiting for is to see if Apple has that deal for college students where they giveaway a free iPod nano (or a discount on any other iPod) with the purchase of a new Mac. That, and for my parents to withdraw my college money from their mutual fund account.

My old laptop (HP zv5000) had issues up the wazzu, but my dv6335 is one year old and I have never had a problem with it. It seems everything is perfect or everything goes wrong lol.

right now - apple's deal is 10% off if you're a college student plus a really good deal on a top-o-the-line cannon photo printer.

In the past, Apple held the Back to School deal from June to September. I think I'd rather have a printer though, since my 5.5G iPod is still working, and I'm not really hyped about the current generation (except for the iPod touch and iPhone, although I doubt Apple would offer a significant discount on those).

I don't think so, Apple just refreshed the Macbook a few months ago.

Would a Macbook be satisfactory enough for Comp Sci assignments? Or should I go with the MBP?

yuck.

Sometimes I think I could work 10 hours a week if we were a mac environment. Sadly, 90% of the custom software we have is windows exclusive. Thumbs down.
