OpenSource/Free Software - Take a look to the list first before buying software

This is a list of some very useful applications that can help you in your day to day working. Many of this applications are multiplatform in other words they work in win, linux or mac. I hope that this list helps you in saving a few bucks by replacing a needed nonfree application with a free one.

* This list will continue to change over time, that means that it will be updated regularly with new free to use recommendations.

Some examples of application that can be replaced are:
* OpenOffice -> Microsoft Office
* Gimp -> Photoshop
* AMSN/Pidgin -> Windows Messenger
* Mozilla Firefox / Seamonkey -> Internet Explorer
* Avast/AVG/ClamWin -> Norton/Panda/McAffe

As a possible alternative to GIMP or paying for Photoshop, Adobe is releasing their web-based Photoshop Express, which is more like Photoshop Elements.

Right now its only in its public beta, but definitely worth a look at.
