pc build

ok, so ive never built one but i have all the parts to do it now that i ordered from new egg.

asus mobo
nvidia 8600
2 gigs ram
amd x2 5600 2.8

so here is a problem i have, i dropped the processor like a retard and bent a couple of the pins. i bent them back, none were broken and then the processor went in no prob.

Should i be ok?? will it most likely work since all the pins went in correctly?
any help is appreciated.

update
type r pc skunk2 performance

If it dropped right in after you fixed them then you should be ok, I've done it too.

Only way to truly know is to power it up. Let me know if you want me to come take a look at it.

well, one side dropped in, so i looked at the pins and some were bent, i bent them back and it went in much easier, but didnt fall in as im sure the pins werent 100% straight, but it went in w/o much force at all, thanks dave, roberts coming over tonight to help with the rest of the build, he is a guru of sorts so i should be good to go as long as i dont have to mess with the bios. ive never built a pc before, but im savy on them so the difficulty rating is relatively low but i wanna make sure its all good to go. i got a dvi to hdmi cable so i can use the 46" flat screen as a monitor!

Nice setup, you got going. I'll have to come by and check it out. You shouldn't have to mess with the bios unless you plan on overclocking, but not a smart idea, you could kill your chip real quick.

yeah, i wanted something super fast, but mild, i dont do much gaming, so overclocking is out of the question, not to mention the amd chip but i do want to get back on some counter strike! id rather pc games because imo they are graphically superior, but then again consoles are just as good it seems.

Hey ridge racer. Are you looking to buy some software? PM me if theres any particular software you need and I can hook it up for a VERY nice price possibly. All depends on if I have it in stock at my other business.

Looks like a decent setup I wish HDMI was commonplace at the time I bought my most recent mobo. Asus is definitely a wise choice.

You'll be fine with that, as long as all the pins fit and make full contact. I'd say to make sure you have the CPU seated firmly in the socket & use some decent thermal paste. As for overclocking.... It reduces your CPU's life by about 15%. A CPU's standard lifespan is somewhere between 15-20 years. In reality this means an overclocked CPU will only last you 7-10 years at minimum. Which is still approximately 2-5 years longer than most people will keep a PC. So using the argument that your CPU will die sooner when overclocked isn't really valid. The only thing you need to worry about is having a steady current on the 12v rail and not giving the CPU too much voltage. Some tools you might want to look up:

CPU-Z
Speedfan
Super Pi

These will help give you an Idea of how well your system is running.

Any reason why you didn't opt for the Intel Q6600? I think that's the biggest deal to snatch if you were looking to build your own PC at the moment.
