Generally it's alright these days. If you buy kit systems 90% of the time they'll be flawless. However there's drawbacks. Sound quality is reduced due to the signal being transmitted. The packages are overpriced in comparison to a similar spec wired system, however it's a tradeoff for convenience. I'm personally an audiophile, don't own an iPod for that reason alone etc. so sound quality matters to me. If you're just looking for something that'll give you rear channel audio for movies, then it'll be perfect. If you want to listen to music primarily, then get a stereo setup (and possibly a subwoofer if you're so inclined).

Thanks for the info. The main reason I got the surround sound was for better sound.

It'll probably do you good. I had a Denon Receiver w/ Mission Speakers & a 15" Tannoy sub in my old house set up for surround sound. My best advice is to spend some time making sure speaker placement is as good as you can get it, then fine-tune the EQ settings. I always turn off things like Dolby Pro Logic II & DSP when listening to any form of recorded music. Bass-Driven 'Produced' music will benefit from DLP II's sound processing for the lower frequency range. GL!
