Wait, is the desktop from your computer not working or is it a BluRay player? You make it sound like a computer isn't working on your TV which makes me think the firmware on your computer isn't setup to output the correct video settings to work.

its my laptop computer hooked to the TV with an HD cable
it might be the settings on the comp? hopefully? then I could change something right? I watch the movies on WinDVD for Blue Ray which came with the comp. I bought a universal HDMI cable which does allow the comp to be shown on the TV but its not playing the movie when hooked up. |

I don't think you can output an HD video signal from a computer to your tv without an HDMI cable.
Look up HDCP (HD Content Protection). I'm not sure if it's in effect yet as I know nothing about blue ray, but this form of content protection prevents the HD video signal from traveling over anything other than an HDMI cable to prevent copying. |

Does your laptop have BluRay built in? WinDVD is not a BluRay program (that I've seen, hence the name WinDVD). I would think you need to update your video settings so you can get the right content protection and make it work. Welcome to the shitty world of HDMI and the issues with it. Damn HDCP causing more issues than it's worth...

try turning off your laptop screen and only outputting to TV.
a few things to clear up: -you can get "HD" through any of the standard PC outputs, VGA, DVI, and now HDMI. -if your PC does not have HDCP, the only "HD" way to view Blue Ray is VGA. -if your PC has HDMI than it has HDCP. HDCP is only optional on DVI |
