So after about 5 years my Pioneer Elite Plasma is Crapping out on me I had to pull it down and sent it in for repairs...I have sent it twice and they said it needs a new panel and the warranty company is denying my claim cause the panel isn't covered..BS!!! Eitherway I am thinking of upgrading to a 58"er

Vanns.com: Panasonic TH58PZ700U 58" 1080p plasma HDTV (TH-58PZ700U) Features THoughts?

Go with a 1080p LCD with 120 hz refresh rate -you won't regret it! None of the ghost/contrast problems of older LCD technology.

I have the 50" 700u panasonic... love it but if i had to do it again i would have got the 750u model because it has 3 hdmi 1.3 ports and some extra video processor upgrades... both models have awesome digital noise reduction, sd card playback, and low frequency chamber at the bottom of the panel.. you have to add spacers to mount it though... i have mine on a 15* tilt mount and calibrated by me (isf certified)

gonna need a new mount. That one looks like an old Chief mount that was model specific. Get yourself a Sanus VMPLB and be happy.

SHit...That Chief mount won't work? Will it hold the weight of the 58" or should I just use the free mount that comes with it? The free mount isnt tilting though And I really don't want to have to mount a new mount...Its a PITA over the fireplace...

the chance that'll work is slim to none. Good luck but I honestly doubt it'll work. Who's giving away a free mount? Plus, unless it's a name brand, I wouldn't trust putting my TV on something they gave me for free.

We sell a lot of plasmas (though we generally just do the professional models, ie: Cost more and come without a tuner....)

Panasonic, Pioneer Elite, and Sony's tend to be good.

I wouldn't say dead or dying. Plasmas are easier to make in larger screen sizes (50" and over) compared to LCD's, which in turn makes LCD's more expensive. Higher end plasmas also have more vivid colors and deeper blacks.

From what I know about OLED right now, the life isn't as long aside from having a superior picture over regular LCD displays. But as technology comes along you'll see regular LCD displays fade out and give way to OLEDs. By then we'll have 4k resolution.

whatever. Plasma technology is not dead no matter what an AUDIO site says. Just because one company gets out doesn't mean anything. Knowing they're going LCD and using Sharp panels scare me as those are the worst looking LCD's on the market. I'd honestly take a Westinghouse over a sharp. Dumb move Pioneer, let's home your amazing video processing can make up for the shitty panel.

plus, greg, back then there was no standard on mounting so the holes will most likely not work. I'd measure and look into it just to be safe! Be prepared to buy a new mount just in case. I had one customer go from an old Sony LCD (their first year, 4 years ago) to a new 46" and the mount was WAY off. Couldn't be used at all. Same brand, same technolgy, different mount.
