How to choose the right sound card

I've been wanting to get a new sound card for my pc. I've been modding my computers before but never a sound card. I know pretty well how to install the sound card, but that isnt the issue. I want to know if there are only certain sound cards that will fit certain computers, or ect. If anyone can help me with this it would be a great help. Just how to pick the right sound card and how to find out if it will work with your pc. Thanks. And if it helps, im running a Gateway, Windows Vista laptop, brand new and hevily modded. And I think I will run the sound card I get on the family computer I use most of the time, so that way everyone can enjoy it. The family computer has upgraded speakers but thats not even worth mentioning, its a Sony Vaio-RB. We're running windows XP on it.

How do you heavily mod a computer? A laptop none the less? I'm just curious here. Turbo? Reflash? Lots of Firefox addons?

I can understand modding a desktop, I actually love to mod desktops.. But I would also like to know what all you have done to your laptop.

omg, dude, modding dosnt just have to do with cars. And you can mod a laptop. Upgraded fan, a cooling system. A mod chip. Some components for games, ect. Nothing really technical. and also some software modifications, and no, not firefox lol. Thats why i want to start modding my pc, bc theres so many. Im planning to get a watercooled system for it or something. I just dont want to buy an alienware. Way to much money.

can anyone just help out.

You're pretty much screwed for sound cards, unless your model has a space for a small form-factor sound, which will probably end up running to your original plugs anyway.

But, in regards to "modding" a notebook soundcard, I guess you can do this:
Step 1.) Buy this: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS for Notebook

Step 2.) Buy this:
Your Glitzy Gem Phone Complete Design Kit (Princess Pink) [294-deco-PKRIB] : Strapya World of Japan, International Store, Japanese Cell Phone Straps, Gadgets and Keitai Accessory store

Step 3.) Place "bling kit" on sound card.

Step 4.) Prepare for ridicule

But, honestly, there's likely nothing you can do to modify such a small component. Even on desktops, I don't really the point. What would there be to gain from upping anything on a sound card?

Remz I can help you. I need more details of this "heavily modded" laptop. Please post a picture of what your using, and I will help out. While your at it, post a picture of your 8th gen Si you claim you have. I am pretty sure it is a 1:18th scale model. So anyway, about this laptop. Did you get a custom nitrous cooled fan like your car? you know you can get a custom lap enclosure built in to the back with wooden table legs so that you can just unfold the legs when you want to use the laptop and it can sit in the middle of the floor while you browse for porn on line and that way you have your hands available to ...you know...play with your mouse.
