i know its joking, but jokes have to have some truthful basis to be funny.

i didnt read the entire thread, but i really didnt see any jokes that poked fun at nerdyness or anything like that. all the jokes seemed to stem from lack of understanding that more than just cars can be modded.

It was more directed at the claim of knowledge of modding computers while at the same time proving that he knows nothing more than what he saw in the movie Hackers.

And you're right, people that mod computers are nerdy... and they usually end up doing pretty well in life if they actually persue a career in that field... which is why I decided that it would be perfect for me to get a degree in so I can actually fund going to school for something that I really want.. Which is psychology.

But that's neither here nor there. I would say that we need to stop jacking this thread but at the same time I think this thread was dead from the 4th post, lol.

[edit] Oh, and it's also about modding a laptop. I have completely ripped a laptop apart and rebuilt it before and it's no easy task, and it definitely doesn't have much room for upgrades.. And this was a huge Toshiba Satellite p25 with a 17" screen. Short of upgrading ram and... firefox addons.. There's not much that you can do for most laptops. If they were big enough to actually be modded then they wouldn't really be laptops anymore, they'd be freakin breifcase computers.

You'd be surprised at how many people here are either in IT or enjoy modifying computers as a hobby. I ripped apart and rebuilt my first computer @ 13 years old and have loved it every since. I'm close to getting my associates in Computer Networking at the moment and spend a lot of time (I have no job at the moment) just playing around with my desktop. I'm actually getting ready to run linux on it.. But that's neither here nor there.

I think I can safely say that most of the people that posted in here were just joking, especially at this phantom "mod chip" that boosts performance in some way. Which, btw, I still would love more information about.

Anyways, Welcome to the site man and enjoy your stay. I'll go ahead and warn you about how much people joke around here, we're all pretty much a big, lighthearted family. I look forward to seeing you post here for a while.
I understand the original poster is a bit mislead (quite a bit actually). Ill admit i jumped the gun a bit there.

Anyways if ya need linux help just PM me, that is my os of prefrence, though i am also a big gamer so it is not my primary os. If you really really have a desire to learn how an OS works with hardware, networking, etc.. do this Welcome to Linux From Scratch! . I wont lie it will prolly be the most aggravating thing you will ever do but its the best way to understanding a computer.

I think what most are laughing at is the OP's questionable plans for mods and not modding itself. I love modding/building PCs as much as working on the Civic. But when the OP says he has plans to watercool his laptop, I couldn't help but joke.

LOL w/c'ed laptop? I'd love to see the portability in that.
My primary desktop is w/c'ed and it's around 60lbs...I'd love to see someone take a w/c'ed laptop to class, coffee shop, etc roflmao.
