I still consider my purchase of an HD player to be a decent investment. I was in need of a new DVD player anyways so for $120 it wasn't bad at all! Plus it upconverts my regular movies.

On the flip side though, I should probably pick up an extra player for when/if the HD player dies.

Why didn't most ppl see that blu-ray was gonna be ftw from the start? I've seen only 1 hd-dvd writer and it was $1000 and only a max of 35gb disks. Blu-ray has been at 2 layers(25gb/layer) and they're talking about a max of 8 layers.

Blu Ray or sony. .was extremely well planned in the market IMO. They offered to blu-ray in their ps3 to gain market share through a multi purpose device where kids would utilize the gaming unit and as a player. I also believe it was well time due that Sony vested their money and had licensed their tech to other manufactures to produce the blu-ray player while toshiba didn't. And my final opinion on why blu ray won..would be their sole connections with over 50-65% of major motion picture companies.

I wonder how long it will be until someone creates a Blu-Ray to HD-DVD ripper?
Those people can try this guide, I can't confirm that it works because I don't have none of them.

Convert Your HD-DVD to Blu-Ray

You do realize you don't need to convert. Blu-ray has the capability of playing hd-dvd but it isn't visa versa

Soon, just blu-ray will be obsolite. Sony announces their drives will inclue hd-dvd.
Sony was a huge success. No body realizes how much they gave up to manufacture and promote their optical drives.

^ Yup, if Sony was smart, it'd also push BD players to also play HD-DVD for those who don't want to buy MORE media. Good business. May not be fiscally smart, but it gets people buying in the long run.

IMHO, of course.
