I'm torn between doing that and encoding everything in FLAC (after I get some more disk space) so I never have to re-rip again.
I'm using grip as a front end with lame for encoding at 256kb/s. Its more than good enough for use in the car. The Civic's stereo doesn't seem to like 48kHz (I got a few things from DVD's), although the owner's manual claims it will. |

I decided to go with the LAME plugin for iTunes and have been happy so far.
However it takes like 4x as long to rip a disc. I've been considering ripping into a lossless format, but I don't quite have enough space and way too many albums. Maybe when 1 tb = $100 |
