REVIEW: DashDyno SPD by Auterra
Well after much debating whether to get a true AEM uego, or this DashDyno I made my choice. The DashDyno. Now for me to give everyone a full review of this DashDyno I could use some help. I will need to find the drag coefficient of the car, the weight of the car and some other specs. If anyone can help me with this I'll leave a detailed review about the DashDyno.
Initial impressions: After thinking about it, I had realized that $400 is a lot of money to spend for a performance money, but in my mind it was a trade off. $400 to monitor my AFR with a no hassle installation and no voids to my warranty to ensure that I am not running lean is worth it to me. I took the DashyDyno out of the package, and at $400+ from auterra web with the mount, gps cable, ac adapter is worth the extra money for the a-501. The dimensions are a little bulky in size, the width is a little wide, the length of it is just right, as well as the height. I looked at all the ports, and they look like someone took a bunch of cables and raped the DashDyno to create ports for the cables to go. The OBD2 cable connects into the BOTTOM of the DashDyno, and I don't really like that. I am used to it being on the back side or the left or right side of some kind of electronic for my car. Being on the bottom of the DashDyno was a little bit of a nuisance due to the stiffness of the OBD2 cable supplied. The OBD2 cable does not bend well at the end with the male ethernet-style connector. To store your data and such, you will need a SD card. They provide a 128mb Sandisk SD card with your kit, and when installed the memory stick protrudes oh so slightly outside the DashDyno. The color of the DashDyno is a good black, and the buttons feel firm. The monitor of the DashDyno lights up in the night with no problem, however it may be a little bit blinding at night if you do not reduce the light setting. I have not dimmed the monitor yet as I have only had it for a couple days and have been studying my upcoming exams. The mount that comes with the a-501 kit is amazing, the quick release is a beauty! The installation of the mount is extremely simple, anyone could do it. It comes with a female and male plate for the quick release part of the mount. The female goes on the windshield mount part of it and the male goes on the DashDyno part of it. There are 4 screws total to install this mount. 2 for the DashDyno, and 2 for the mount. The mount sticks on the windshield with a good amount of suction power. Once you plant the mount on the windshield, there is a sort of knob that you twist to make it suck to the windshield even tighter. I would highly recommend purchasing this windshield mount The price of the mount is $30 alone, or you can get it bundled. Testing it out for the first time Well I only tried it out for a couple minutes, and it seems there are some minor nuisances with this contraption. First of all the biggest thing that annoys me is the sound. I hate sound coming from electronics that shouldn't be there. When plugged in, the DashDyno makes an electronic whirring/buzzing sound, but at a very low decibel. You can only hear it when the car is at idle, or when the car is off. You will not be able to hear this when the car is being driven. Another thing that annoys me is that when I turn off the car, the DashDyno stays on for another 3 minutes then shuts off and when I turn the car back on a couple minutes after (without disconnecting it from the OBD2 port) I will have to manually re-connect the DashDyno to the ECU via the options in the DashDyno menu. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME WITH THE SPECS, PLEASE HELP ME FIND: The Weight of the 4 door Civic Si Sedan : 2940lbs + 150 for me plus misc items in car = 3090 lb The overall gear ratio : 3.226, 2.13, 1.517, 1.147, 0.921, 0.659. Final drive : 4.764 The drag coefficient of the 4 door Civic Si Sedan : 0.31 The frontal area of the 4 door Civic si Sedan : 27.3 ft^2 ONCE I FIGURE THESE OUT I CAN TEST OUT THE DYNAMOMETER FUNCTION. There is more to come, but for now I am at school and need to study!!! Pictures ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() it's pretty thick, but who cares! also the wall mount is a must have! ![]() ![]() the sd card sticks out just a tad bit... ![]() underneath port rape!!! ![]() ![]() The car is off, but the dashdyno is connected to the ECU ![]() shows you the size of the dash dyno [Reserved for pictures] Last edited by 20civic07; 04-17-2008 at 03:07 PM. |

please read the entire thread before posting. i have not used the dyno function because i have not had time to figure out the drag coefficients. when spring break comes i will be doing many things, including finding the drag coefficients and throwing on some parts. i use this thing almost every time i take a drive to monitor my afr, air intake temp, etc. it's nice to see mpg as well. i have different files i can select for different types of settings. one for the drag strip (which i dont intend to go to... cuz it's just a straight line) one for the track (which i DO intend on going sometime.. but going twice is more expensive than buying a HONDATA reflash) and one for daily driving to monitor mpg etc. no update as of right now.. last tthree weeks have been hell for me at school and continues to be right up until spring break... and then after...
