damn PS2 Game Won't work

alright so my gran turismo 4 refuses to work for my ps2. it will work on my friends no ps2 no problem. there is no scraches on the disk, it is in perfect condition. this is the only game that my ps2 refuses to play. everytime i put the disk in it tells me to "please insert a playstation2 format disk".

i dont know wtf is wrong with it. has anybody else had this problem with a game? if so did you find a solution? thanks

That's very odd. Can you take it back and replace it with another copy? Usually places will let you do that. Especially if you tell them the problem and show that it's not scratched.

Your laser could be on the way out. This is what happened to ours, it started not reading the games until it would only read a few. I bought a new laser on eBay & installed it for about $35 - working great again!

A lot of newer PS2 games are really memory intensive and is causing the laser tracking to go out of whack. The bulk of complaints came when GTA: San Andreas came out. Lots of players were getting disc read errors (DREs). There was a formal class action suit filed against Sony because of the problems the consoles had with the newer games. It's too late to sign up for the class action. If your console has gone beyond Sony's warranty period, you can try some DIY fixes that are posted all over the net. You could Google "fix ps2 dre" and there'll be a slew of links.

Or like kish-81 said, it could be the laser itself.

thanks for the help guys. i figure that it was just my ps2 anyways but gran turismo is the only game that doesent work. my GTA is fine, knock on wood. im not to good with the whole pulling things apart, especially electronics, so i think ill just leave it be. ahhh.......sucks but hey it had a good run. it was one of the first year that was produced so i should be thankful it lasted this long. thanks for the help.

I know this may sound dumb, but eject the dics and put it back in in a diffrent position. See if that works.
