I run Ubuntu 7.10 on a ThinkPad at home that gets used strictly for browsing, email, forums, and music. Works great. Installed perfectly right off the bat -- wireless, all keyboard controls, sound, video, LAN, etc. Considerably better performance than XP.

I use Fedora quite often and I really like it. Of course I would really have to get used to it to be able to be as fluent as I am with windows (not to sound like an expert, I'm far from it) but from the many times that I've used it I've really enjoyed it.

I have a workstation with the FC6 core that I use for casual stuff and web browsing. I also have an FC4 server that has Informix, Sybase ASE 12.5.3, Sybase ASE 15.0, Oracle 10g, UDB, and MySql 5.

I tried to go to a later Linux core, however, I was never able to get all of the databases to peacefully coexist on anything other than FC4.

Only server(s) we have here that are running Linux are our backup (if in desperate need) firewall which is a SmoothWall and our NLB appliance for our terminal servers

i tried mint once about a year ago. it was messed up. might haven been because it was a new distro at the time but it kinda sucked.

i like backtrack though. has a lot of cool tools built in

I have an "appliance" Internet gateway at home loaded with ClarkConnect. It's stripped-down router software based on RedHat. However, all my production PCs are WinXP/Vista.
