DVD Conversion

Hi folks. I need some suggestions. I need a Windows based program (freeware would be great) that will convert DVD's to MPEG format. I am trying to rip some mini dvd's from a camcorder, convert them to MPEG, then move them to my mac so I can edit them. If your name is Nomar, no these aren't the videos from the Dragon that I promised to edit long ago. Ok ok, yeah they are...

Any suggestions?

Hmm, thought you could edit with Final cut pro right off DVD. *weird everyone I know that uses it does that*

Your Dvd recorder should have come with some authoring software. , the other way to do it is just use the firewire port on your Dvd camcorder and use Windows movie maker and import it that way. Record using mpg format , and voila, your done. You can also use the firewire with the Mac and not have to convert to mpeg format at all.

Fire wire is your friend. It's the fastest way to import/export your dvd from your camcorder. (unless your camcorder doesn't have firewire, then that's just weird)

I use AVS video Converter. Its not too fancy but it serves its purpose. If you look you can probably find a free copy floating around.

My mac will not accept mini discs because it is a slot loaded drive. I have to use my PC as a liaison. Joy.

As Nomar mentioned it was recorded with his camcorder. He lives several hours away so unfortunately I can't use his camera to import them otherwise I'd be sitting pretty.

Thanks for the link Jepetto. I'll try some of the programs linked on that site later as the room my PC is in has been commandeered.

Unless it has been changed with the newer generation of players. The information recorded on those mini DVDs aren't formated for playback on standalone players. The folder/file system is different.

Pop in any store bought disc and explore the folders, it has its own way of arranging things. Also the files end with a .ts.
