you need to change the name of the file or folder in terminal

ex. the file you want to hide is call Test

mv Test .Test

Here's a link to an AppleScript that will either show or hide hidden files so you don't have to type in the commands into terminal everytime.

macosxhints.com - An AppleScript to quickly show or hide hidden files

Make sure your user account is set to be an administrator.

Open up the application called Terminal. You can find it in Applications / Utilities / Terminal or just use Spotlight to find it.

In Terminal find the file you are looking for. My example was a folder called Test that I created on the desktop.

In terminal you need to find the file you are looking for (if you're not familiar with using a command line, this is probably confusing).

Once you found the file use the mv command to rename your file.

ex. mv oldFileName newFileName or in my case mv Test .Test

Otherwise, you should just make an encrypted disk with disk utility

Well, I just ordered a Mac Mini, my first mac. I wanted to get an iMac, but for the price and all these friggin' Best Buy Gift Cards, I would have spent a bunch more for the iMac, and considering I already have a 20 inch screen, wasn't worth adding to my debt. I picked up the Mini for $549 (1.83ghz), shipped, no tax from ecomelectronics.com, and a MiniMax 500GB hard drive/apple keyboard/and Microsoft Bluetooth mouse from BestBuy, for, well, free. And I still have another $200 in Cards towards BB. If I went with the iMac, it would been $1283 w/tax, or $883 with all of my cards towards it. I think it was a pretty good deal, can't wait to mess with it.

I've got a 8600 in mine too.

I'm glad Apple is starting to catch up on using solid graphics cards in their computers.

For everyone that just bought a Macbook or Macbook Pro within 14 days from this date should run back to the store and refund that shit and get the new ones. You have a right to be upgraded to the updated models so long as you are within that 14 day window of a new release.

text size

I just bought a 2.2ghz black Macbook since it was on sale here at school. I like it except for the fact when I cruise the forums and other websites in Safari/Firefox the text seems awkwardly small compared to my PC (I always have to increase the text size by one tick. I don't know if this is something just inherent to the mac's or what. I thought about returning it to get the cheapest pro but I'm not sure it that is going to help the problem.
