Well, I use word, powerpoint mostly...rarely use publisher and a few times excel--just the basics, no formulas for me.
.....soooo lean towards the iWork?

anyone in school who uses iWorks without any problems?

Now all this talk about a new model makes me glad I didn't already purchase one for her.
I do have a question if someone would be so kind:

I believe the base model pro 2.4 GHz $1999 will meet her needs, but I know she would like a 17 in screen. The only way to do that is buy the 2.5 GHz top of the line Pro which I think is overkill for what she needs. She is a graphic designer so she needs to have somewhat of a powerful Mac, but doesn't need all the top of the line video card, etc... that the $2800 macbook pro offers. She also will only be using this laptop for basic design, and programs like adobe. She has a desktop at work for all the hard core design.

Thoughts?

P.S. Sorry for the newbie question. I have asked several questions in the past, but now we are quickly reaching the point in which i need to make a decision. I just want to make sure I am buying the right laptop for her.
If she is going to travel with it the 17" is hard, the new ones will have a rumored price drop, maybe 100 bucks or more, the refurbs are amazing you might want to buy one of them, Macworld is in Jan, always has something crazy to release, might want to wait Oct 14th will be the new Macbooks:)

I didn't doubt you. I'm an optimistic person. I might wait buying it right away. I'll give it a month or two to see if there are any bad kinks.

OH and I love your avatar! lol it got me the very first time I saw it. I was like ewww there is a bug on my comp! but then quickly realized it was your avatar lol
