Also, I am not sure if I approve of the playlist generator. It seems to make some weird, random selections. |

ok, so I'm getting excited about the possible release of a new macbook pro in October.
I know I am definitely getting one, however one big question lingers. iWork or MS Office 2008? Some guy briefly showed me how to use iWork and was impressed. Especially, since I've heard some not so great things about the MS mac version. The only programs I really use are word, power point, and sometimes publisher. I occasionally use excel, but not so advanced that I use formulas. Sooooo... for those of you that have used both, which do you prefer and why? |

...you think? In Pages, you can save to a multitude of file formats, and I've never had a problem with the "usability" of it. In essence, I guess I'm just disagreeing with the reasoning behind your favoritism -- care to elaborate on it? |

That is what got me excited about iwork. All you have to do is export it as a .doc file.I also liked how he just dragged a picture from his collection onto the word document and the ability to place it where you want-also the picture automatically wrapped around the text (like you'd see in magazines or papers). oh and the same goes for keynote...just save it as a powerpoint. Now all this talk about a new model makes me glad I didn't already purchase one for her. I do have a question if someone would be so kind: I believe the base model pro 2.4 GHz $1999 will meet her needs, but I know she would like a 17 in screen. The only way to do that is buy the 2.5 GHz top of the line Pro which I think is overkill for what she needs. She is a graphic designer so she needs to have somewhat of a powerful Mac, but doesn't need all the top of the line video card, etc... that the $2800 macbook pro offers. She also will only be using this laptop for basic design, and programs like adobe. She has a desktop at work for all the hard core design. Thoughts? P.S. Sorry for the newbie question. I have asked several questions in the past, but now we are quickly reaching the point in which i need to make a decision. I just want to make sure I am buying the right laptop for her.
