I used the Migration Assistant when I temporarily upgraded to Leopard and it worked for me without having to re-enter the serial.

Otherwise, NeoOffice is a good free alternative.

really? so when i migrate, i should just migrate applications? that should put word, excel, and powerpoint in the new imac from what your saying correct?

when i started it, it said it would take like 10 hours over the network. i said... SYKE! and backed out cuz i had to go back to my place in sacramento.

would a firewire be significantly faster?

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, firewire will be much faster compared to over the network.

When I did my upgrade I had Tiger on a different partition on my computer, so it zipped by (30 minutes?).

I did the migration during the upgrade process though and everything was already on the computer same computer, so your results may vary.

I did have problems with a couple of my applications (Quark) not working properly.

I've done the migration via firewire in the past when I've gotten new laptops and can't quite remember if Office transferred w/o having to re-entering the serial or not. I'm pretty sure it doesn't because I don't think Microsoft does validation on Macs like it does on PC's.

I'll give it a try later on one of my other Macs.

Regardless, its worth a try.

Oh BTW, are you a student at a university?

You should check to see if your campus has copies available, which they should.

When I was in college they had student editions of Office 2003 for Windows for $7. I'm sure they'd have Office 2004 or 2008 for Mac for cheap as well.

Ah yes, but with a slower hard drive, slower bus speed AND slower processor, it is essentially useless. I try to talk my customers out of buying them (even though they are dead sexy)

My boss in the office has one and likes 10x better than his Sony Vaio. However, he's got the SSD.

Its too bad they don't make a hybrid to help cut costs...

agreed - but still the crippled internal bandwidth makes it a glorified ebook reader and typerwriter. it's ok if you don't handle any files!

I use to work with windows until I decided to get a Mac last year, and love it, and can't stop playing with all its options.
Question: how do I put pictures in messages if I don't have a URL, I only have them stored in my computer?
I will hopefully get my new SI in fiji blu next week after graduation. Cant wait!!!
Well, I believe that all who have a Mac and an SI must have good taste :)
