Need help Hi-def guru

Hello everyone,
I just bought LG 26" HDTV(720p) for my xbox 360 and have few questions.

1) My HDTV is 720p but if i use VGA cable instead of componet cable(come with 360) will i get better graphics??? i read on xbox forum that few ppl said it will give you close to 1080p graphics but again they were using VGA cable on thier monitor not on hdtv.(remember i have first gen xbox 360 so it doesn't have HDMI slot )

2) Is it worth it to buy 360 HD DVD player add on if i have HDTV with only 720p????? or will it give me 1080p becoz in hdtv manual it says (accept 720p,1080i,1080p signals)

News
If someone looking for HDTV for low price???? i got this LG 26" for only $448 from brandsmart. i looked it over the internet and the cheapest price i saw for that TV is $599,even LG official website price is $799 so if someone want cheap ass HDTV get this now oh and thanks for the gurus in advance for helping me out.

To be totally honest with you......with the size of TV you have you will never be able to tell a visual difference between 1080p and 720p. The tv is simply to small to tell the resolution difference unless maybe you sit a few inches from the TV. I would just enjoy running your 720p and would not buy any HD dvd players at all. Just use your component cables set to HD and run 720p.....

I agree with Anubis 720 and 1080..not a big enough difference to spend more on it. So you made a good choice with the 720p. You do need the component cables to get HD for your xbox.

The xbox hd dvd is cheap for the price but isnt too good if you have a first gen. The reason is that the XBOX is doing all the processing for the hddvd drive and it'll heat up pretty good. That'll increase your chances of the red rings of death. BTW amazon.com has the toshiba HD dvd player with 7 movies for $200.

Yea my TV has HDMI,VGA and all crap but i have first gen xbox360 ad it doesn't have hdmi port.

So if i use VGA cable over component, it won't make a difference?????

That would be up to you. There is a big difference in picture quality between HDDVD and regular dvds. If you really want my opinion....save your money and stick with regular dvds until HDDVD is more popular.

Also, there are dvd players that upconvert. They convert regular dvds to HD. I still think you should save your money.

$499 is kinda a high for them even if its LCD. I think on black friday I could've gotten a 50" 1080p samsung LCD from them for like $1200. I bought a 46" 720p samsung DLP from them a year ago for $1000

honestly the quality will be about the same as a regular DVD (maybe a little better). I think that you would need a tv larger than 40" to notice a difference. My pops just got a 76" 1080p DLP and you can see a huge difference on that tv with the hi-def. He currently has the new 40gb PS3 and is gonna buy an HD-DVD player also.

Just go with an upconverting DVD player for now until you can afford a bigger TV. Unless you really want the interactive features on HD-DVD you will not benefit from it.

no need to worry about 1080p or HD DVD. BluRay is outselling HD in players and media now... the fight will be over soon enough.

ummmm there is now way in hell that was the price. If so, where? That would be a steal at the size and price for a samsung!

And as Toxis has said BluRay is waxin' hd ass.

Samsung doesn't make a 50" LCD, only Plasma and DLP. Their LCD's are 52" or 46". Going by the price, I'm saying it was DLP which still isn't worth it to me as DLP looks like dog poo to me. I hate the mirrors. Constant shaky looking picture, exaggerated colors... no thanks.
