I'll be getting a Mac for free as a present but i will have to get rid of it. I would keep it but it sucks that the applications from a PC are not portable to the MAC.

Anyone wanna buy an 300MHz iBook I have for sale for $200? I love the great depreciation on Mac's......lots of idiots out there that will overpay just to say they "own a Mac". I personally can't stand the thing, it does NOTHING I can't do better with a PC.

New Mac's? Forget it! I can spend $3000 on a Mac Pro.......or I can spend $1000 on a PC that will kick the crap outta the Mac (and look better doing it) :)

*EDIT*......OOPS I was wrong.........you can get a hell of a powerful Mac Pro.......amazing how powerful you can configure them.

I just priced one out (with all of the options) for:

Subtotal Please note that your subtotal does not include sales tax or rebates. $23,054.00 CDN (approx $24,000.00 USD)

That includes:

I got it running on my OpenSuse10.3 setup.

The tool that let me do it is known as Crossover Office.

Who the hell buys a computer with 300Mhz in 2007? The reason your getting crap for your computer is probably b/c your trying to sell technology that was introduced more than a decade ago. No comment on the 25k macbook :/

Getting crap? I happen to think getting nearly $200 for a 10 year old computer is a VERY good deal for me! I have LOTS of interest on it too.......just nobody has come to get it for the low low price yet

I hate my laptop. Screw HP, I'm never buying any computer product from them again. The thing puts out way too much heat and the battery lasts for a whopping one hour! Oh yeah, I've had to reformat my hard drive at least three times because of some stupid error with Windows...

I'm going with a Macbook Pro as my next laptop. Hell of a lot nicer. I don't care if it costs $3k, it's worth it imo.

Oh, and as for the comment above about macs doing well with routers, this is very true. They use collision avoidance in data transfer so instead of it transferring 2 different ways at the same time and just detecting when a collision happens, it only sends data in one direction at a time so a collision cannot happen. The trade off is the speed of data transfer, which I think is a good trade.
What your describing is half duplex and full duplex. PCs and macs are both capable of this depending on your NIC and so on. Collision avoidance (CA) is a feature on some high end networking equipment ie. cisco switches. Correct me if im wrong but I dont think CA is a feature on NICs. Also, sending and receiving data at the same time (full duplex) is actually faster.

If you already have an Intel core, research some more about loading up a MAC OS into it.
I've tweaked up my XP and I have yet to see a program crash
Google Black Viper XP tweak give it a try before spending more $$ on macs :)

Might save you money, might not.. just a thought
I agree...research the mac it sounds like the better OS for you. I have windows vista and its great because I have it running the way I want it to. It actually alot better then xp . Of course you'll have alot people crying about how PCs suck or Macs suck but its all about how you tweak it.

2 things:

1. cdn's worth more than our crappy dollar? Thought they were still 1:1. Correct me if i'm off.

2. I would love to meet the guy who actually buys a 24k mac, and ask him for some change.

A couple weeks ago it was 1.10 Figure it should go back up soon. I'm buying a desktop from the US, and the 1.01 rate is killing my savings

I had read a lot about cross over office and it appeared that some versions of iTunes could run under it, but still had issues...I'll have to look into this more...Thanks man!

Depending on how often you use your battery, expect degradation. I don't use my battery from my 6000 all that often, so it still lasts about 2 hours or so, but it's a far cry from the 3.5 I used to get on it. It just happens with batteries mate. Sorry to hear about your Windows problem though.

Macbook Pro isn't a dream machine either. It runs HOTTER than most Windows laptops and batteries always decrease in life the longer you have them.

Still, I love how the OS and I have Windows XP on it too!

Shoot, I just remembered the heating issues Macbook Pros have had. Oh well, I still prefer the Mac OS over Windows XP (I tried osx86 on my dad's computer).

I know that the battery degrades, but I wasn't expecting the battery to degrade that quickly (I had it replaced less than a year ago and I rarely have it unplugged from the ac adapter). Before having it replaced, it would literally die right after I unplugged the ac adapter.

I hate macs. I have never ever EVER seen so many problems come from a computer. Ever. We have two G5s, a Mac Book Pro, an Intel mac pro with all the works, and a G4 at the studio. They all are taken care of well and always up to date with things but they always have stupid problems. So many random little things and some really big things that I don't even have time to explain right now. It really hinders our business at times. I'll always be a Windows guy. I have been using windows since 3.1 and Have never had a virus, crash, or whatever. Well, maybe a program crash or two but that's rare. Never a blue screen EVER on Windows XP. All the PCs in my house are perfect while all the macs at the studio have problems.

Sounds like a joke but it's true.

I don't just use a PC and a Mac. I push them and use them like they're meant to be used and in the end the mac has failed me. The PC I'm working from right now can process things in photoshop (ex: actions, filters, etc.) 3 times as fast as the Quad Mac Pro at the office. :\

This is my experience with four mac systems.

If you're having problems with Windows, then you're doing something wrong.

/end rant. Sorry, we've just been having too many problems with them lately.

[EDIT]
In fact, right this very moment, my friend is trying to fix his mac at his house from something serious. Not sure what it is.

Wonderful.
