Torrent Users, beware domplayer/3wPlayer/DivoCodec
Be careful if you download a file and it says you need to download another media player to play the file. Its BS and will f*** up your system.

Watch out for WinZix too. After downloading a file and extracting it from multiple rar files it pops up with a zix file, a read me and whatever info file they wish to include. If you read the read me, it says that the group/person they are claiming to be have switched to a new more powerful compression system and that you have to download it.
After downloading there new wonderful system, you start installing it. Everything seems normal until you get to the "agree" screen, which most people ignore and lick agree on. But if stop and read the very top of the screen it says that it will be installing 3rd party advertising software. Well i stopped as soon as i saw that and before i was able to click cancel my anti-virus warned me about a virus that was attempting to install. It healed it but i was afraid it had installed some other software i didnt want. So after hours of cleaning i am going out of my way to spread the word to everybody. WinZix is a scam, do not fall for it! |

What is MPC + CCCP? I'm very new to computers, so sorry, if it's a dumb question. Also, what is bittorrent, bitcomet, torrent???? I don't understand. Does each site need it's own designated player, or is there one player that can play content from all sites??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

CCCP is the Combined Community Codec Pack. It's pretty much every codec/drvier you'd need to play most of the media out on the internet. The only other thing I'd recommend getting is Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative.

First you download the torrent software, the best is uTorrent. Then you find a reliable site which lists torrents. TORRENTS | TO | Your BitTorrent Search is a search site which lets you search some of the most popular torrent sites. The best and most reliable are mininova and piratebay IMO. Read comments on files before you d/l unless you are sure it is legit. Torrents with more seeders are more likely legit. If you download stuff that doesn't work but has comments saying it does then you are probably missing something, like a codec. You may want to consider the legal / moral issues involved, thats up to you. Peerguardian is software you can download which essentially connects to a database with a list of ip's which are blacklisted, these ip's are known to be bad for one reason or another (maybe they are baiting you for information, maybe they just upload viruses.) Peerguardian largely acts as a filter to keep your information from those companies who are dedicated to making a huge legal deal out of this stuff. Fact is that music and video media are forever changed now that file sharing exists. Time for companies who are trying to constantly press lawsuits to realise that they had better jump on the bandwagon before it is long gone and they are in the dust. |
