What can I do with a broken 360?
I took a shitty shift for a co worker today (gave him my 8am - 2 pm shift and took his 2-11 pm shift) and he wound up giving me his extra xbox 360 in return. Not a bad trade-off huh? He went out and got an elite and gave me his core one, since it isn't working right.
He gave me everything - the box, cables, system, manuals, etc etc. The problem with it is that it overheated once and now it turns off randomly (even when it isn't hot) within an hour+ of playing. Can I send it in to Microsoft even though I didn't buy it and the guy who gave it to me doesn't have his 'proof of purchase' receipt and whatnot anymore. I was thinking about buying a new one at walmart and swapping them but I don't wanna stick them with a broken one. That and I know I'd get caught, and it isn't worth it. |

just leave it on for an extended period of time...or call them a complain about the problem till they fix it.
never heard of one shutting off after an hour due to heat, only the ring of death. |

If it sounds like they're not going to replace it, just tell them that it's doing the red ring thing. With the amount of returns that they've had over the past few months they probably won't even test it until after you've recieved your replacement unit. The worst thing that can happen is they send it back to you in which you can just do your wal mart thing (not recommended).

Even if there's no red light, say there's a red light when you call 1800 4 my xbox.
Then it will be covered under the extended warranty, and if it fails again you'll have another full year of full warranty thrown in.

They check serial numbers, good idea though. You can buy a new one switch the plastics so they get the new serial number and you keep your old serical number with a new xbox |

Nvm I just tried it for the first time and there is, in fact a red light. When I tried calling them, though, they wouldn't listen to me because the guy before me called in complaining about the over-heating and telling me that it wasn't covered, even though there is a red light. I guess I'm just stuck with a broke one.. I would do the walmart thing but I'm sure they've tightened it up lately and will check it out.

It's amazing how many people suggest cheating one from Wal-Mart. If you take a broken Xbox 360 you didn't buy from Wal-Mart and exchange/return it at Wal-Mart you are basically stealing it. You are just putting a friendlier face on it.
If Microsoft warranties their product and give you a new one that is one thing. But thinking you somehow deserve a free Xbox 360 even if you have to cheat an univolved 3rd party is selfish and immature. I'm not trying to judge anyone and am not really talking about anybody in particular. It is just surprising how many people these days are not at all hesitant to cheat/steal. |

Wal Mart is a horrible company that has been caught doing some extremely horrible things since Sam Walton died so if anyone wants to cheat them I will not feel bad in the least. Do you remember a few years ago when they got into trouble for releasing a memo that stated something to the effect of "If any toys get donated to the Toys for Tots drive and still have the price tag on them, restock and resell," and let's not forget when a wal mart in indiana (or somewhere similar) had hired a mexican guy to clean up the parking lot after hours and when they decided they wanted to fire him instead of just calling him in and firing him (thus having to give him unemployment) the manager decided to just get up there before the guy got to work and start spraypainting racial slurs and threats on the wall hoping that he would get scared and quit. They settled those suits out of court so they never had to admit guilt.. even though with the toys for tots thing they denied the memo came from corporate and offered an apology.
I hate wal mart for the things that they do, I think that wal mart is the anti-christ of stores. I'd rather spend the extra $20 and go to a mom and pop store and know that my dollar is going to support something of value. Just my .02 ....^ which means that I, in no way, am representing 8thcivic.com with my opinion.. It is mine and mine only.
