Quick internet question

I have my computer and my friends computer beside eachother and I have 1 internet connection with 1 ethernet cable......originally its plugged into my computer and it works perfectly but when I plug it into his computer it doesnt connect and says limited or no connectivity, why does this happen and how can I get internet to work on his computer?

PS and yes his network drivers are installed

If you just unplug it from your pc / plug it into his - it probably won't like it.

unplug the power from the modem for like 20 seconds... plug the ethernet into his pc, then turn the power back on to the modem. It should reset, and it then should let him get internet. May take a min... and POSSIBLY a reboot. Or you can click on the network properties - and click repair. It should then get a new IP working

Find out whether your machine has a static or dhcp address? which ever one your machine has, make sure your friend's has that also...dhcp is most common...
Also...look for link lights (green/amber flashing lights) on his nic card and the modem when plugged into each other...
