its that, they DO have a sim card slot. all gsm phones (international phones) have it. for the iphone it must be somewhere thats hard to access.. the main reason why people are making a big deal is without a slot, they can't unlock it.. which cant be used on other carriers (t-mobile).. switching it so they can use it with another account etc.

btw that is the single reason why this phone is running on EDGE and not EVDO. because the iphone can be used all across the world = more money for apple for the trade off that internet sucks horribly.

the sim card is on the top...right where the headset goes. You have to use a paperclip to get it to open.

exaclty. especially right now. maybe not in a few more weeks. its like asking if a guy who waited 10 hours to watch star wars liked the movie and expect him to say no.

if you notice, most of the people who say i bought it and dont like it, are people who just walked in and bought it.

i havent come across a single person who waited in line and then isnt super happy with it. but lots who just walked into an Apple store and bought one are dissapointed.

I'm just waiting for the iPhone to be weened off of itunes, so I can sync my outlook items, contacts and tasks via Edge.

say thank you to EDGE. outdated, slow, near worthless.

the people who own it will always love it, some will hate it. some rejects it because of the long list of lacking features. in the end.. there will be a phone that mimics the style of the iphone + features we all want and need. thats technology for you.

so get ready to start selling your iphone because chances are, other major companies will make something that WILL easily beat it.

hyped up phone from apple + diehard apple users ftl.
Apple + AT&T + Samsung + Google/Yahoo + youtube is not a bad combo... and no, i'm not a diehard apple fan, but that's the only way you can compete with a giant like Microsoft

lol you know what's funny is that I HATE apple.. i was actually badmouthing them and the iphone, and pointing out how my MDA has way more features. I got the iphone as a late bday gift. My plan was to sell it on ebay immediately after using it for about a week, but this phone is growing on me, not because of the youtube, but because of the two point/finger navigation.

I don't have to look down with the parrot kit, it reads the letter and menus for me via the car speakers. Yea there will be better phones coming from HTC & Treo (although I doubt the latter, don't really like Treos at all), but as much as I don't want to say it, apple led the way into a new generation of phones. AT&T's EDGE network was refined before the iphone rollout, and considering I have TMobile on the MDA, EDGE to me seems a whole lot faster than internet on my MDA. Don't get me wrong though. AT&T is possibly the WORST cell phone provider in the US, the "simple and groundbreaking" itunes activation took over 3 days, hours on hold with AT&T, and MUCH frustration, and the lack of features does slightly bother me... I mean, I had to use my MDA flash to take a picture with the iphone, wtf... The only thing I see being on par with the iphone is this..

624mhz processor
8gig HD + miniSD
EDGE/3G
GPS
wifi/bluetooth
motion sensor
TV OUT!!

so yea, I will sell my iphone.. when this comes out in the US.

edit: also includes competing technology for iphone's safari... when you turn your iphone around, as you know, the browser changes from portrait to landscape. This phone uses something called VueFlo... Here's some germans demonstrating:

What? I still don't get it.

If you want to unlock a phone, you don't go through the SIM slot, you go through the data port. As far as I know, all phones have to be reflashed/unlocked via the data port, not with some special SIM card or SIM adapter.

Don't hold your breath, I highly doubt that's gonna happen... syncing outlook items via directpush is gonna be something I don't think Microsoft is gonna let the iphone do, considering it's a competitor. But who cares?

I love the fact that I can open a contact on my iphone, click on the person's address, and it'll show me their house on google earth from a satellite view.. then i can click on get directions to, and beat myself over the head for buying the navi on the civic.

I guess what he means is that without a SIM slot, there would be no way of putting a tmobile sim card into an iphone.. but there is.. and iphones use the same radio/cell technology that tmobile uses.. and a court ruling recently decided that unlocking phones and using them on different carriers is completly legal (see below).. and TMobile is already going to be the iphone carrier in the UK, so it's really only a matter of time before some kid in their mother's basement in Germany or Sweeden unlocks it, puts it out there, and I'll be the first on hold cancelling my AT&T plan and adding another line to TMobile. I'll GLADLY pay the $175 contract termination fee.

and if you had a regular smart phone, you could buy a bluetooth GPS reciever ($150) that basically transmitts your location to your phone via bluetooth. and get turn by turn navigated direction through on your phone.

or if you didnt, you could highlight and copy the address then load google maps and paste it. and even though you had to copy and paste the speed of the internet will make up the time.

i cant get why people are making big deals of things that other phones can do beter.

wait why are you signing a contract? did you get like $300 off the cost of the iPhone? they make you sign a contract without getting $ off? what an Fing rip.

The iphone is a complicated product. It was marketed as a "smartphone" which would lead most techies to believe that it is as capable as a treo, blackberry, etc. And the $500 and $600 price tag also screams high-end device. The reality is, its the best ipod ever...hands down. But as far as a phone, its pretty mediocre. Their target market was obviously supposed to be the apple fanatics and trend followers, as well as deep pocket college students. Unless Apple does some serious addition to the iphones features and lowers the price, i think their goal of 10 million iphones sold by the end of 2008 is overly-ambitious.

I definately feel you on that. I imagine most people who are praising the iphone as the ultimate phone are probably totally oblivious to companys like i-mate, HTC, RIM, etc.

As soon as the ATT 8525 gets Windows Mobile 6 im gonna upgrade to that phone. With a $299 price, i can get a GPS receiver($100), and two 2GB microSD cards($100). BAM!, download a couple Spb programs, TomTom GPS, and gotvoice(visual voicemail program). For $500 bucks i can have pretty much everything the iphone has plus everything it doesnt...can anyone say iPhone killer??

This phone was honestly made for the apple/ipod fanbois to be entertained with. i had fun playing with it for a bit (it has sweet effects and gadgets), however.. The call quality was far worse than the quality of my $140 verizon phone I just got two months ago.. The keyboard was attrocious.. I had a horrible time trying to type on it.

Web was.. just as everyone said, ridiculously slow. Why did they even put internet on there if it's going to take 5+ minutes to load anything? How ridiculous.

Buy the phone if you have $500 to spare and you like to show off new things to your friends / easily entertained by cool little gadgets. There's my review.

You can even back mine up by reading Cyber's posts. Each time so far she has just said 'how much fun she's having on it'. Sorry, phones aren't primarily for fun! Yes, it's a fun phone to dink around with.. but that's as far as it goes. Sorry apple, maybe next time.
They are not for everyone granted.....but i am not having delays loading pages on edge maybe 30 second the most a minute where i have no bars.....

for what i need it for its perfect ;0

you sound like the lady who wants a scanner and remote added to the iphone..lol

The Safari web browser is fast on AT&T's edge network, altho it took 2 days of me being very pissed off and calling a bunch of at&t #'s to get it activated. But it was all worth it when I could hit youtube on my phone's screen and youtube any video .... the navigation is pretty neat too, you zoom by using hand strokes on the phone, it's hard to explain without seeing yourself. I got the 4 gig ipod but i'm considering selling it and getting an 8 gig. It does have a sim card that's removable, but you cannot switch networks....

if you're planning on getting this, i would get my credit rejected on purpose to get the prepaid plan, so you're not stuck with a contract. I'm gonna end up paying the $150 termination fee or whatever it is, and switching over to tmobile as soon as someone unlocks this phone.

to avoid getting a contract type 999 99 999 as your SS# on i tunes works every time :)

Reading all these people who are still cranking on about blackberries and nasty little joypad orientated phones running what amounts to win95 shareware apps I got to thinking about the iPhone and just how actually stunningly great it is when I thought I'd put my conclusions together since they reveal a pretty interesting outcome ;

* iPhone runs on a version of OSX - which is itself a version of Unix.

Apple took 10 years to get OSX to the state is in now and they are one of the finest tech companies in the world.

Only Microsoft has a chance to catch Apple’s in the mobile operating system front but as history shows it will suffer from classic Microsoft bloat.

Nokia, Motorola, Samsung etc can only compete with Apple by licensing Microsoft S/W.

Yet again the two founding pioneers of the modern world do battle...

Yet again their offerings will represent the philosophies of their parent companies. You all know what these are but this time the game is slightly different because the hardware tech has to be so tightly integrated with the S/W.

* IPhone represents an evolution of the finest Digital music player in the world.

After 5 years as leader in this field the competition stand looking on, even as yet, unable to fully understand the Apple Ipod business model. Only Microsoft seem to have an understanding here and they are playing catchup very badly.

* iPhone is gen 1 software but running on beautiful solid Apple hardware.

All limitations, oversights and new directions can relatively easily be fixed, installed and updated automatically via iTunes.
No other company does this as flawlessly as Apple.

...and Finally the last and greatest point ;

* Only Apple is in total control of it’s hardware and the OSX software that runs on it.

On this point, even Microsoft can not compete since the likes of Nokia, Motorola, Samsung are NOT in control of the evolution of their own product market.

They can ONLY make new hardware for a Microsoft’s O/S and VICA VERSA!

Steve Jobs has finally found the area of tech where the company that controls both the hardware and the software WINS!

And that is what makes iPhone the greatest technology with the most potential on the planet today.

And the final coup de grace -

EVEN Microsoft can’t compete unless they become a hardware company - just like Apple. Zune illustrates they understand this but are playing catchup badly since they are having to learn in a few years, what Apple has been since it's inception!
