My main problem with the iphone is that it's marketed at smartphone prices, with a smartphone look, they made it sound like it was going to be a smartphone... but it has no freakin smartphone capabilities. Like I said before, I can browse the web at broadband speeds anywhere that I have a connection, I've got a touchscreen that's good to go, a full keyboard that unless you have fat fingers is easy to use, a removable battery, external memory, etc. etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on. Not to mention the fact that there's no third party software which means that apple can charge an arm and a leg for simple things, whereas I might find a program for my treo for $60 and then turn around and find another program that's similar for $20.

Don't get me wrong, for a cell phone the iphone seems kick ass (minus the price), but for a smart phone..

I would really love it if:
A) apple improved this thing and it turned out to be a badass phone
B) they cut the price in half and give it something like a $250 w/2 year plan and activation

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to firmhonda again.

the problem is that it tries to be a "fun" blackberry or treo. but in reality, its a toy that looks like a smartphone that happens to make calls.

personally i think the phone is greatly overhyped. The lack of 3G and instant messaging really hurt. The iphone is a great idea but it seriously needs to be improved upon not just said to be awesome just because apple made it and hordes of apple fans who run a lot of the blogs and news make it spectacular. I have nothing against apple i even want a macbook because that machine is beautiful its just the iphone is not so great.

I would like to clarify a couple things.

1) the sim card is easily accessible, I don't understand why everyone freaked out about that. It is inside a little tray on the top of the phone, you just insert a paperclip or thin pin of some sort and it pops right out.

2) the screen does NOT scratch easy. we took keys to it and nothing happened, I promise you I'm not making this up. We also pushed on it as hard as possible, and nothing happened at all.

3) to me the build quality seems very very good, it's solid which I like, and has a bit of heft to it.

4) My experience with call quality was quite different, it was really quite clear, and even in the store with all the frenzy, I could still hear my mom talking just fine. ( of course you have to call your mom first lol )

5) just using it really is a surreal experience, I can't wait for my free one to arrive :)

Well, as long as we're clarifying a few things here.. I was really looking forward to this phone. Matter of fact, I remember having a conversation with a buddy of mine (who's a mac addict) about how cool it would be if apple decided to make a cell phone about 4 years ago.

It's exactly what I thought it would look like, but nothing like I thought it would actually be. The screen on it looks nothing short of incredible, the all around aesthetics of it is very nice. I just don't like the fact that the internet speed (as reported) is almost the equivilant of 56k, as well as the other quibbles(sp) I've noted here. As a cell phone, it's badass. As a smartphone, well, you can read my other posts for that.

For the people that have purchased it and enjoy it, kick ass! I'm seriously glad that you enjoy your phone as much as I enjoy mine.. and I won't try to tell you not to enjoy it or to purchase mine instead, I just keep making my point to people that are thinking about buying it so that they know what to expect when they shell out an absurd amount of money (imo) for a really cool looking phone.

--sorry, I just got sidetracked.. may finish this post later

i played with it today.. so happens a customer that came by today had an iphone and mentioned he had 10 and 9 of it is on ebay. he says its great because people are stupid enough to spend the extra money to get it on ebay.. which then makes him a richer man.

my opinion.. it was nice and different.. its full screen touch and view so playing videos is awesome on it.. i browsed through the internet and it was weak as i thought. overall.. definitely for someone who wants a flashy phone and money to throw around.. not so great for someone whos looking for features.

...dont they limit it to 1 per person? thus that lady that came to the at&t store with 16k and they only let her buy one?

Actually I think it was $100k IIRC. and yeah it's 1 per at AT&T but 2per at Apple stores.

most of which didn't sell out the first day :)

just quoting him, he was real cocky and he supposedly had connections. theres no rules when it comes to something that releases with alot of media and public attention. i had friends/customers that recieved the iphone weeks before it was released. its always possible to obtain more than one.. just got to find some sources..
