well, it's not just the iphone. It's played like that on my computer. It's only on certain songs that it's really loud and distorted.

I know i noticed this too! It doesn't work when you are in a car using bluetooth.....cuz I was driving my dad's infiniti with bluetooth yesterday and used my iPhone but all it did was the address book and phone calls. I was hoping you could do the music that would be badass.

Apple said on Monday that programs available on the Internet that allow the iPhone to be used with other service providers besides AT&T's Cingular network can irreparably damage the device.

OMFG! So, I updated the iphone's software and what happens? My screen is black and it has a yellow shield with an exclamation saying please connect to iTunes......uhhhh it WAS connected.
I go to macrumors.com to see what's going on and I guess the update stopped all unlocked and 3rd party applications from working...wtf?!
I used the iphoneringtonemaker............is that why my phone isn't working?!

Yes. There's no way I will put a unsupported software/hack on the Nazi party ruled Apple product. They only want you to go thru them so they can milk you for every cent they can. But they are oh so hip.

You might have a Ibrick, you need to restore before updating.....

Is your phone unlocked? Or are you AT&T? If you have an unlocked iPhone you are (for now) unable to use your phone. The new firmware has not been cracked yet. If you are AT&T you should just be able to restore it.

The new firmware (1.1.1) that Apple released effectively relocks unlocked iphones.

So I rushed Friday morning to the store when they opened up.
They tried to restore it the first time and it didn't work. The second time it did work. My phone is fine. No, it's not unlocked. I didn't update my itunes before I tried to update my phone, which is why I think it froze on me.
I'm glad I brought a back up phone for NY. The battery on the iphone died -and not having the contact info sucked too.

Oh and no, it wasn't the iphoneringtonemaker. Many people updated using that or itoner and didn't have a problem. I think it was just because I forgot to update itunes first.

I was hoping I had an ibrick. Maybe then I would have gotten a new phone-maybe a 8gb! since they're not selling 4gb anymore (which is what I have)

Apple to release kit for third-party iPhone applications

NEW YORK — Apple will allow third-party applications on the iPhone, Chief Executive Steve Jobs said in a posting on its Web site today.

In a decision that marks a clear turnaround from Apple's previous desire to control the applications consumers have on their iPhones, Jobs said the company intends to release a software development kit in February that will let people outside the company to create iPhone and iPod touch applications.

"We are excited about creating a vibrant third-party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users," Jobs said in the posting.

Coders have built numerous iPhone applications that run on the company's Safari Web browser because the company didn't initially open the iPhone directly to third-party software development.

The iPhone, which combines a cell phone, multimedia and wireless Internet into one device, was released in late June amid a flurry of anticipation. Apple has sold over 1 million iPhones since the product's launch.

Jobs said today it will take until February to release the kit because the company wants to give developers an open platform and also protect iPhone users from viruses, malware and privacy attacks.

"There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network," he wrote.
