The icon where it says "3G" changes to a Wi-fi icon. If that wi-fi icon switches back to a "3G" or "E" icon, then you are not connected to Wi-fi.

Do you have any control over that setting? Like, no internet connection allowed through 3G?

No control. Not that Apple can't build that into their next version, but I don't think that would be in their and AT&T's best interests. Sucks, I know.

you can disable 3g but it will still go onto th edge network. disabling 3g is supposed to help with battery life

My bad. I meant data as a whole. You can't disable data, period. You can turn off 3G which enables Edge only.

I dont download anything free. Its all purchased from iTunes.

^ How about downloading the songs (pirated) into iPhone? Can you make a mp3 song into a ringtone without using the internet on the iPhone itself?

If we disable the 3G, does it affect anything besides non-wi-fi internet?

I'm about to upgrade to Iphone but have a quick question. I have an ipod also, but I hear that you have to use Itunes to use Iphone. How does the music download thing work with having both? I have a lot more music than 8gigs in my Itunes, how would I go about picking what music Itunes puts on there?

I'm not sure how it works with using both devices since I don't have both. My assumption would be that they can both be synced with with iTunes with no issues.

As for the iPhone, since it's smaller, only the songs that have a checkmark next to them will be synced. That means you're going to have to go through your collection and uncheck a whole bunch of them.

you can just create playlists and have the phone sync to specific playlists instead of unchecking a million songs.
