I was the same way when my ipod touch home button stopped working. I didn't want to spend the $40 bucks to ship it off to get a new one. Ended up stopping in an apple store while on vacation and asking what they recommended I do. They said make an appointment at the genius bar online for the closest store to you and go in, its free. They also said that because my problem was unique I would probably just get another ipod.

Ended up making a reservation and going to an apple store. Spent 5 minutes in the store and was on my way with a new ipod. (they keep your old one)

No and I have unlimited internet when you have an iphone you automatically, get unlimited internet on you bill, for the 3G is $30 more and for Edge is $20.

Update fixes all that horrible lagging when you're typing. There's also supposed to be improved overall stability. So far, I am happy.

I forgot, the back-up process is reduced.

Yeah, I did the update last night... Does that take up space on your memory? I was looking at it last night and it doesn't look like it but that update was 230mb.

1 - Download the firmware for iPhone2G or iPhone3G

2 - Follow these instructions to manually update your iPhone through iTunes

does anyone know how i can sync songs from itunes on my other computer?! it says in order to do this i must restore my iphone and lose everything. i think this is horrible because what if you get a new computer and you have over 1000 songs on you iphone than you lose all that and have to sync all over again?

any help would be appreciated!

I think this is copyright protection. If you were able to copy songs from iphone/ipod to computer then you could "share" all those songs with your friends, all they would need is the software.

There are programs that are less than great at copying music from iphone/ipod but they're not free (unless you are 1337).

Thats because you can't just download the 'new' part of the firmware. You have to get the whole thing.

The iphone 2.1.1 OS is 230mb... I believe 2.0 was a bit less so the new update will probably cost you roughly 20-30mb in memory. Not an additional 230mb.

Just to be clear, there are 2 updates available. There is an iTunes update and then there is an iPhone update. I would update iTunes first, then do your phone....
